Results: Arkansas | Georgia | Idaho | Kentucky | Oregon | Pennsylvania
7:26 PM PT: GA-Sen: Why is Handel so far behind? It just doesn't look like she's getting the margins she needs in Metro Atlanta. She's behind Perdue, sometimes by quite a bit, in all the big Metro counties except for Gwinnett. Perdue is doing well in other parts of the northern part of the state while Kingston is carrying the south.
Contrast that to Handel's plurality in first round of the 2010 gubernatorial race: she carried all the counties around Atlanta, often by huge margins. It's looking like Perdue has just cut into her base too much for her to earn a trip to the runoff this time.
7:26 PM PT (David Jarman): PA-09: The AP called the Pennsyltucky GOP primary for incumbent Bill Shuster; he leads tea-flavored opponents Art Halvorson and Travis Schooley 52-36-12 with 73% reporting.
7:36 PM PT (David Jarman): PA-08: There's only one race outstanding in Pennsylvania, and it's just getting closer. Kevin Strouse leads Shaugnessy Naughton 52-48 for the Dem nod in the Bucks County-based 8th, with 54% reporting; the winner faces GOP incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick.
7:38 PM PT (David Jarman): PA-St. House: The Dem primary in Pennsylvania's state House that got the most attention, an old-vs-new battle between Harry Readshaw and Erin Molchany in Pittsburgh's HD-36. In the end, old won pretty easily, with Readshaw up 60-40 with all votes counted. (SD-04's Dem primary is probably the biggest remaining fight in the legislature. Challenger Art Bradshaw is now up by about 100 votes over LeAnna Washington.)
7:40 PM PT: GA-Sen: The AP has called one of the runoff spots for Perdue.
7:41 PM PT: GA-Sen: Handel has one big card left: Gwinnett County. Most of it is still out, and she leads Perdue 36-31 here, with Kingston at 14. It's looking dicey, but Gwinnett could help Handel narrow the gap a bit.
7:41 PM PT: GA-01: In the GOP primary here, state Sen. Buddy Carter looks like a lock to advance to the runoff with 35 percent. It remains a tight battle for second, with surgeon Bob Johnson leading venture capitalist John McCullum 22-21.
7:41 PM PT: GA-04: In the Democratic primary, Rep. Hank Johnson leads former DeKalb sheriff Tom Brown 55-45. Johnson leads in all four counties and looks good to pull it out.
7:42 PM PT: GA-10: In The GOP primary, it looks like our runoff ticket is set. Pastor Jody Hice leads trucking executive Michael Collins 35-31, with no one else coming close.
7:43 PM PT: GA-01: The AP has called one of the runoff spots for Carter.
7:43 PM PT: GA-10: The AP has also called both runoff spots for Hice and Collins.
7:46 PM PT: GA-Sen: We're probably closing in on 70 percent (the SoS doesn't display how many precincts are reporting) and Kingston leads Handel 27.53/20.46.
7:50 PM PT (David Jarman): AR-02: The AP calls the GOP primary for banker French Hill. He leads Ann Clemmer and Conrad Reynolds 54-23-22 with 50% reporting. Hill will face Dem Patrick Hays in a potentially-sleeper open seat.
7:52 PM PT: GA-Sen: It looks like most of Metro Atlanta is in. Gwinnett is at 57 percent reporting based on the New York Times totals, which slightly trail the SoS. Handel leads Perdue 36-30 there: Probably not enough of a plurality to make up the gap with Kingston given how much of the county is in.
7:54 PM PT: GA-Sen: With probably about 75 percent in, Kingston leads Handel 27-21 for second. It looks like Handel has run out of friendly turf to make up the gap.
7:55 PM PT: GA-12: Rick Allen remains at 54 in the GOP primary, looking good to avoid a runoff. Democratic Rep. John Barrow waits in the wings.
7:56 PM PT: GA-11: Little has changed in the GOP primary, with Loudermilk at 39 and Barr at 25. Both look set to enter the runoff.
8:01 PM PT: Polls have closed Idaho and Oregon.
8:01 PM PT (David Jarman): PA-13: One last update on PA-13, even though it's long been called for Brendan Boyle. As MontCo precincts finally report more, Boyle's early Philly-driven numbers have fallen a bit; he's leading Marjorie Margolies by a merely large 44-26 now instead of previous crushing amounts (with Daylin Leach climbing to 3rd, at 16, and Valerie Arkoosh at 14).
Also, PA-08 keeps getting closer, although verrrry slowly. Patrick Strouse leads Shaugnessy Naughton 51-49, with 75% reporting.
8:05 PM PT: GA-Sen: Things don't look great for Handel, but not quite hopeless. Most of DeKalb looks out, where Handel leads Kingston 34-17. A good chunk of Fulton and Gwinnett still is out, where Handel is also beating Kingston. At the moment Kingston leads 26.82-21.43. Handel has a tricky balancing act, but its possible.
8:09 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-Sen: Monica Wehby is doing pretty well in the Oregon Republican Senate primary, leading Jason Conger 58-31. (She's probably pretty grateful for Oregon's vote-by-mail system, where this week's news came after a lot of people already voted.)
8:10 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-Gov: Meanwhile, on the gubernatorial side, state Rep. Dennis Richardson is at 55% against a whole bunch of nobodies (none of whom poll higher than 14) in the Republican primary. That's with 11% reporting for both the Gov and Sen races.
8:14 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-Sen: The Oregon Secretary of State site is way ahead of the AP, with about four times as many votes tabulated. Overall percentages are basically the same, though, with Wehby leading Conger 57-31.
8:14 PM PT: GA-01: The race for second still looks tight. Johnson now leads McCullum 22.67 to 20.51.
8:17 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-05, OR-02: According to the SoS, the GOP primary in the 5th finds Clackamas Co. Commissioner Tootie Smith leading ex-Hill aide Ben Pollock 63-37, for the right to take on Kurt Schrader. (The AP, trailing behind, has it a closer 54-46.) The tea-flavored challenge to Greg Walden in the 2nd is fizzling; Klamath Co. Commissioner Dennis Linthicum is trailing Walden 80-20.
8:22 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-Gov: The AP has called the Republican gubernatorial primary for Dennis Richardson. (And naturally, on the Dem side, for incumbent John Kitzhaber, who easily defeats Ifeanyichukwu Diru... which saves me the trouble of having to create a macro for each time I'd have to type his name.)
8:26 PM PT (David Jarman): AR-04: We can safely close the book on Arkansas. The AP finally called the GOP primary in the 4th for Bruce Westerman, who defeats Tommy Moll 53-47 with 70% reporting. Westerman will face Dem ex-FEMA chief James Witt in this open seat.
8:26 PM PT: GA-12: The AP has called the GOP primary for Rick Allen, who will now face Dem Rep. John Barrow in the general.
8:30 PM PT (Steve Singiser): ID-Gov: Early tallies are being reported in Idaho, and while they provided all the entertainment last week, the two sideshow candidates in the GOP are accounting for just 5 percent of the vote. More interesting is how close it is at the top: incumbent Gov. Butch Otter only leads state Sen. Russ Fulcher 52-43 in early balloting. On the Democratic side, it looks like Boise School Board member A.J. Balukoff is safe. He leads his primary with 73 percent of the vote.
8:30 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-Sen: Heh, here's the understatement of the year, from Jason Conger:
Conger, Wehby's opponent, said he didn't invest in oppo research bc he wanted a "clean campaign," admits it was a "huge mistake"
8:31 PM PT: GA-Sen: Excellent news:The New York Times has gotten a little ahead of the SoS and we now know we're at 87 percent reporting. Kingston leads Handel 26.4 to 21.7. The bad news for Handel is most of the Metro counties are in or mostly in. Cobb has a bit to go, but unlikely she can make up the gap off that.
8:35 PM PT (Steve Singiser): ID-02: It's early (10 percent reporting), but veteran Republican Rep. Mike Simpson looks like he will avoid a teabagging at the hands of challenger Bryan Smith. He leads 66-34 over Smith, who came at Simpson quite clearly from the right and had some institutional support from Club for Growth.
8:35 PM PT (David Jarman): GA-12: Delvis has left the building! (The state Rep. only managed 15 percent in the GOP field which Rick Allen won outright, potentially finishing in 3rd behind sketchily-financed businessman Eugene Yu's 16%.
8:36 PM PT: GA-Sen: The AP has called the other runoff spot for Jack Kingston. Will face Perdue in July.
8:39 PM PT: GA-01: Only Georgia race left in doubt is runoff spot here. Johnson leads McCallum 22.71 to 20.47.
8:44 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-02: Greg Walden's tea party challenge may have been the biggest nothingburger of the night. The AP called it; he beats Dennis Linthicum (who raised almost bupkus, despite being an elected official) 76-24.
8:46 PM PT: GA-04: Almost everything's in, and Johnson leads 55-45. No AP call but safe to say this is over.
8:47 PM PT: GA-11: Also waiting on inevitable AP call for Loudermilk/ Barr runoff.
8:49 PM PT: GA-04, GA-11: And just like that, the AP has called both.
8:52 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-Sen: The AP has called the Senate primary with 52% reporting, for Monica Wehby. She leads Jason Conger 55-32; she'll face Dem incumbent Jeff Merkley in November.
9:00 PM PT (David Jarman): PA-08: Finally we get a call in one of the night's closest races, PA-08's Dem primary. The AP says Kevin Strouse beats Shaugnessy Naughton 51-49 (with a 761-vote spread) with all but 4 precincts reporting; he'll take on GOP incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick in November.
9:02 PM PT (David Jarman): PA-St. Sen.: We've also got a call, finally, in SD-04. Dem challenger Art Haywood beats indicted incumbent LeAnna Washington, who was almost saved by the clown car. It's 40-34, with Brian Gralnick taking 27.
9:06 PM PT: GA-01: Apparently they're taking a Sweet Tea break here. Johnson leads McCallum 23-20.
9:07 PM PT (Steve Singiser): ID-02: And the Club for Growth managed to throw more cash down the hole. Rep. Mike Simpson wins his primary over Bryan Smith handily. The AP calls it for the incumbent, who currently leads 63-37.
9:09 PM PT (Steve Singiser): ID-Gov: It sure seems that Idaho takes...ahem...a leisurely approach to counting their votes. Over an hour in, and we're still looking at 18 percent reporting. Gov. Butch Otter has stretched a bit of a lead over state legislator Russ Fulcher (55-40). On the Democratic side, things have tightened a touch, but A.J. Balukoff still leads 64-36 over Terry Kerr.
9:12 PM PT: GA-01: The AP has all precincts in, with Johnson leading McCallum 23-20 for the second runoff spot. No call yet.
9:18 PM PT (David Jarman): OR ballot: Here's an interesting tidbit from the always-unpredictable Beaver State: two of Oregon's darkest-red counties -- Jackson and Josephine Counties in the state's rural southwest -- passed ballot measures banning GMO crops. That's not a labeling requirement, like the statewide ballot measure that failed last year in Washington... it's an outright ban on cultivation. It'll be interesting to see if that's something that spreads.
9:20 PM PT: GA-01: The AP has called it.
9:30 PM PT (David Jarman): OR-05: It's not the AP, but the Oregonian is calling the GOP primary in the 5th for Clackamas Co. Commissioner Tootie Smith, which is good enough for us. Smith is beating Ben Pollock 62-38 with 57% reporting.
9:46 PM PT (Steve Singiser): OR-05/ID-Gov: And, just to confirm it, the AP now calls the GOP primary in the 5th for Tootie Smith, which sets up the November showdown with Democratic Rep. Kurt Schrader.
Meanwhile, no calls yet in Idaho on the lone race of the night left uncalled (ID-Gov). But, with over a third of the precincts counted, the GOP looks likely to renominate Gov. Butch Otter (he leads 55-40), while the Democrats look pretty likely to pick A.J. Balukoff (he leads 63-37).
