It's Friday, so we'll wing it.
But I've got to tell you, I stayed up late checking my GunFAIL stories, after stumbling across one of several current articles citing CDC data on accidental gunshot deaths among kids 14 and under. It seems 2010 is the last year for which data is available, and the CDC's numbers show 62 accidental deaths from firearms for that age group. But having collected so many GunFAIL stories, I felt like that was a lowball figure.
So I spent a late night combing through my stories, and I've found 68 accidental gunshot deaths among kids aged 14 and under, just from January through July, 2013. I haven't even finished looking through the full year yet.
We'll talk about it today, no doubt. But I'm guessing this could become a bit of a story in the weeks to come. And you'll have heard it first here.
