Attention all Arizona Kossacks who don't escape in the summer to cooler climes ...
Let's show the rest of the state that Phoenix and Tucson really
can get along and, besides, what else do you have to do in the middle of summer? By late July it'll be 110+ in the Valley and southern Arizona, and folks up north will be hankering for some triple digits. So everyone get in your air conditioned car, or light rail, and head for downtown Phoenix to meet other Grand Canyon State Kossacks and Queen Foodie, aka Navajo. She'll be coming straight from a family reunion in Kayenta, so we expect gobs of rez stories and photos.
Put this date in your calendar, whether it's on your desk or smart phone: Sunday, July 27, 4PM to 6PM (or later). No excuses, you have plenty of time on a lazy weekend day to drive to Phoenix and get home before a Mad Men rerun. If you plan to attend or are a "maybe," send me a note via Kosmail and I'll add you to the list. I'll also send the address and directions for driving and light rail; it's all very convenient.
Yowza, that is one hot tamale!
We'll meet on the rooftop terrace of one of Phoenix's original high-rises, with a great view of the Valley's sunset. Yes, it's enclosed and air conditioned, but the adventurous among you can also wander outside into the July sun (just watch that first step, it's a doozie).
The Phoenix Art Museum and Heard Museum are within walking distance, so come early and make a day of it! Too bad there's not a home Diamondbacks game that day, because we know how well they're doing. Not.
I'll invite Sheriff Joe Arpaio to be our keynote speaker. On the other hand, maybe not, since we'd like people to show up without pitchforks and boiling blood. But we are planning a bit of live music, so if you'd like to sit in please bring an instrument.
For food and refreshments we're asking you to come with a dish; no restaurant or catering, let's build community with a potluck. Be creative — after all, it's Navajo! So expect photos of your dish to show up in future diaries. Bring whatever you want: a main course, dessert, beverage, snack. Let's treat Navajo to some mighty fine Arizona cuisine and local brews. There's a full kitchen to keep dishes warm and a bar to keep drinks cold.
Of course, bringing food is optional; please attend even if you don't bring anything. Friends and family are also welcome, so we can indoctrinate them into the librul cult (just don't show them the secret handshake).
Again, send Kosmail to Mother Mags:
1. Are you coming? Yes or Maybe
2. Guest name(s)
3. What might you bring? Main or side dish, dessert, snack, beverage, whatever
