Guns, God, and goofballs
Listen to the Duck Dynasty guy, Republican Party! Not because he has good ideas, mind you, but because you literally
have nobody else anyway:
“You want to turn the Republican party around, get godly,” [Phil Robertson] told the Republican Leadership Conference on Thursday, according to coverage from The Times-Picayune. [...]
Robertson’s speech focused on religion in politics, citing quotes from the Bible, referencing prayers written by John Adams and George Washington and reading religious legislation, such as a 1983 Senate and House resolution designating the year as the national year of the Bible.
Bring up God a lot? Damn, man, I don't think anyone's thought of that before. You may be just what the Republican Party needs to break it out of its no-ideas, horrible-on-the-issues funk!
The reality star, appearing at the party gathering in New Orleans, admitted that he was surprised to be chosen to speak at the event.
“I’m not a political person,” he said. “I guess the GOP may be more desperate than I thought to call somebody like me.”
No, they're just about exactly that desperate. "TV guy who said homophobic things in an interview and thought the Jim Crow days were pretty good" is pretty much right in the Republican Leadership wheelhouse these days; you're lucky you weren't followed up with a zoo animal that paints abstract portraits of Ronald Reagan. Or Ted Nugent.
