I normally like Steve Kornacki, he does good work, in particular has been excellent in covering the Chris Christie Bridgegate Scandal. And I'm a fan of MSNBC, almost all their shows. But the interview conducted last week by Steve Kornacki of Progressive Candidate Marianne Williamson for Congress representing California's 33rd District was disgraceful and exhibited everything that is wrong with MSNBC, everything that is wrong with our news channels as long as they strive to be "entertaining". Fortunately, Marianne is such a strong and forceful personality that she took him to the woodshed and refused to fall into a trivialization of both the people she represents and the issues facing our country today.
California's 33rd District has been for years represented by Henry Waxman, who is retiring this year. It is a district that comprises 52 zip codes yet MSNBC felt it necessary to call it Congress: 90210 and keep that on the screen through most of the interview. It is a district filled with hard working Angelenos from all walks for life yet MSNBC felt it smart and funny to call it the Botox Belt. It was meant to trivialize Marianne as a candidate, trivialize the district in particular and trivialize Los Angeles in general. I ask you, who is more trivial, the person who decides to implant Botox or the person who cares about someone else's personal decision, someone they don't even know. I don't care much about Kim Khardasian, but I have more respect for her than I do for the countless writers at Huff Post who obsess over her every public appearance.
That MSNBC and Kornacki would try to trivialize Marianne Williamson is especially disturbing. We have in Marianne a truly exceptional Progressive candidate, one who has a unique ability, on the level of Senator Warren, to clearly articulate a problem and offer common sense solutions in a way that can be understood and be persuasive to all Americans despite their party affiliation. She an extremely persuasive speaker who could become a far more effective Progressive spokesperson in the House than either Keith Ellison or Alan Grayson (both have endorsed her). She is the only candidate I know of who has made the issue of money in politics the centerpiece of her campaign since it undermines any chance we have of real solutions to Climate Change, Universal Healthcare, protecting our food sources...and offers the only practical solution to overcome the Supreme Court decision - a constitutional amendment.
In her candidacy we have someone we should be championing, not someone to be treated as a political sideshow. She rightfully puts Kornacki in his place. I urge everyone to look into her campaign, vote for her if you are in the CA 33rd, or if you have friends living there to urge them to get out and vote.
