Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 9:36 PM PT (Steve Singiser): IA-03: The precincts are virtually all-in at this point, and it looks like the convention is a lock. Brad Zaun still leads, but with just 25 percent of the vote, he is way under the threshold to avoid a nominating convention (which is 35 percent). Five candidates are between 16-25 percent, however, meaning that the GOP convention here could be a total bloodletting. Which has to be splendid news for the Democratic nominee: state legislator Staci Appel, who gets to sit and watch the carnage from the sidelines.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 9:37 PM PT (David Nir): NJ-07 (R): Check this out:
Nearly a sleeper upset of one of the last GOP moderates in Northeast: GOP Rep. Leonard Lance (R) wins primary just 54%-46% in #NJ07
— @Redistrict
Lance's opponent, Dave Larsen, raised just $60,000. Is Lance another Lee Terry in the making?
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 9:43 PM PT (David Nir): CA-21: Wait! There's a huge AP error here. They're currently giving Democrat John Hernandez the exact same vote total as GOP Rep. David Valadao in Fresno County, 5,065. There's no way that's a coincidence, and in fact, according to Fresno's own website, Hernandez has just 958 votes there.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 9:50 PM PT (Steve Singiser): California: Welp, looks like the ganja break in the most populous county is about to end. Hark, I think I hear the choppers!

Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 10:16 PM PT (David Jarman): CA-31: Things are looking marginally better in the 31st, thanks to the 10 pm ballot dump. GOPer Paul Chabot is still in first at 26.1, with Dem Pete Aguilar second at 17.1, Dem Eloise Reyes third at 16.5, GOPer Leslie Gooch at 15.9, Dem Joe Baca at 11.7, and Dem Danny Tillman at 9.3. What's important here is that Aguilar and Reyes are putting a little distance between them and Gooch, making a two-GOPer finale less likely. It's still only a 400-vote gap between Aguilar and Gooch, though, with 34% reporting, so anything's possible. The next update will be at midnight PT/3 am ET.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 10:17 PM PT (David Jarman): CA-10: Dems had decent hopes for the 10th after Jeff Denham won narrowly in '12, but he's in strong shape tonight. The GOPer is at 59, with establishment Dem choice Michael Eggman only at 25 and some other Dem, Mike Walrus Barkley at 16.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 10:19 PM PT (David Jarman): CA-31: One optimistic thing to note about the 31st, if you drill down to county-level details, is that some of the bluer areas of San Bernardino County may not have reported yet. Right now, Jerry Brown is pulling 40% in the county while pulling 56% statewide, which is a much wider gap than what we saw in 2012 (where Obama got 60% statewide and 52% in San Bernardino County), so more Dem votes might be forthcoming. (Alternatively, it could be a turnout problem, and those extra Dem voters aren't showing up until November.)
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 10:22 PM PT (David Jarman): CA-17, CA-52: We're getting mixed signals on whether the AP has called the second slot in the 17th for Ro Khanna (Khanna's up over Vanila Singh 26-16, so there's not much doubt). Mike Honda, at 51, was called long ago. Meanwhile, in the 52nd, the AP has given checkmarks to Scott Peters and Carl DeMaio, unsurprisingly.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 10:36 PM PT (Taniel): NJ-Sen: Meet the man Republicans nominated against New Jersey Senator Cory Booker: Jeff Bell, a conservative consultant and former speechwriter for Ronald Reagan who had already been the GOP's Senate nominee all the way back... in 1978! That year, Bell defeated five-term incumbent Senator Clifford Case from the right in the GOP primary; he went on to lose against Democrat Bill Bradley in the general election. No Republican has won a Senate seat in New Jersey since then.
