We're currently in the U.N. Decade of Education for Sustainable Development...
"to achieve an improvement in the quality of life, particularly for the most deprived and marginalised, fulfillment of human rights including gender equality, poverty reduction, democracy and active citizenship"

people with disabilities are the largest U.S. minority. More than 65 million people in the United States provide care for people with disabilities or a senior family member. An estimated 2.2 million Americans need a wheelchair for mobility. The number of us with mobility issues is projected to increase 22 percent over the next ten years. |
Any or all of these —or anything else related...or different— can be a diary subject or an instant Open Thread Night Topic or comment. We co-host/co-post with other groups, and we publish/re-publish diaries of interest across the week.
Diaries can be 1 paragraph, 2, or 20, revised or new. Whatever matters to you matters to all of us. It's perfectly OK for you to rewrite a diary you published a couple of years ago, whether it was here or at any other group or at your own page - just check to bring your facts current, and include a note at top or at end "Revised from" and date you originally wrote it. The recommended way to "rewrite" is to click on Edit at the bottom of your original diary, and copy your text and coding from your INTRO box into that box of your brand new draft, then do the same your text and coding from your original EXTENDED(OPTIONAL) box into that box of your new draft. Proof & polish as desired, and voila! your diary is ready to be queued for publication again! Your own words and work are your intellectual property, no one else's, just as everyone else's is their own. DK's own DrLori's excellent Authorial Matters: References, Plagiarism and Copyright diary is a must, also the Welcome New Users diaries by the authorities in DK, and their New Diarists group especially the Site Resources, and the Cranky Users who are really not cranky or mean at all but wonderfully helpful folks. Many opportunities at these groups to ask questions and get coaching and answers. They're there to help.
KosAbility is a Sunday 4pm(Pacific time) community series by volunteer diarists, as a gathering for people living with disabilities, who love someone with a disability, or who want to know more about the issues. Our use of "disability" includes temporary as well as permanent conditions, from small, gnawing problems to major, life-threatening health/medical problems. Our use of "love someone" extends to beloved members of other species.
Our discussions are open threads in the context of this community. Feel free to comment on the diary topic, ask questions of the diarist or generally to everyone, share something you've learned, tell bad jokes, post photos, or rage about your situation. Our only rule is to be kind; trolls will be spayed or neutered. If you are interested in contributing a diary, contact series coordinator postmodernista.
