If you didn't know that the military conducting a prisoner exchange was now considered an impeachable offense,
you haven't been paying attention.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) warned Wednesday that Republican lawmakers would call for President Obama’s impeachment if he released more prisoners from Guantanamo Bay without congressional approval. [...]
“It’s going to be impossible for them to flow prisoners out of Gitmo now without a huge backlash,” Graham said. “There will be people on our side calling for his impeachment if he did that.”
Graham served as a House prosecutor during former President Clinton’s 1998 impeachment trial.
That's too much for the ever-ambitious Marco Rubio, who distanced himself from The Talking Boil On John McCain's Left Elbow,
for now.
“Well, I’m not, at this point, calling for impeachment,” Rubio, a Florida Republican, told CNN on Wednesday. “The president has two years left in his term. We hope they pass quickly, that he will — that we can somehow have a majority here in the Senate so we can limit the amount of damage he’s doing to our economy and our national security.”
I say "for now" because the base
knows what it wants, and Marco Rubio is an ambitious man.
Does anyone—anyone at all—doubt that if President Barack Obama had nixed the exchange to get back an American POW and the Republicans found out about it, they'd be calling for his impeachment for that too? You don't even have to wonder; a true party leader like John McCain always has both opinions in his back pockets and can whip out whichever of them you like.
