No, a different rabid anti-gay group. No, not that one either ... the Texas one ...
Hey look, it's Ted Cruz.
Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz spoke at an anti-gay marriage rally on Thursday hosted by Steven Hotze, a controversial doctor who has told women that birth control would make them unappealing to men and has warned that equality for gays would be a stepping stone to child molestation. Hotze, who runs an alternative medicine practice in suburban Houston and is suing the Obama administration over the Affordable Care Act, organized the event through his political action committee, Conservative Republicans of Texas.
Wow. There is no part of that paragraph that isn't appalling, and that includes "Houston" and "Thursday."

The event's head, a Dr. (yes, Dr.) Steven F. Hotze, is a longtime anti-gay activist big on the theory that gays propagate by recruiting children to be gay. He's really, really anti-gay. It may not be possible to describe how fully anti-gay he is.

Hotze told a local newspaper reporter that he cased out restaurants before making reservations to make sure they didn't have any gay employees and became such a divisive figure in local politics that for a brief period the Harris County Republican Party cleaved in two.
So he's so batshit insane that he "cases out" restaurants to make sure that gay people won't come in contact with his food, but in the current Texas political climate he's no longer so "divisive" that the current crop of Republican Party bigwigs like Ted Cruz won't come polish his shoes. And Cruz is only one among many: the "sponsor committee" for the event is pretty much a list of every Republican politician in Texas.

Oh, Texas Republican Party. If there's a lower bound, please let us know. The suspense is killing us.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
