Received this e-mail today from actor Michael Douglas:

This November’s elections are just a few months away, and there is a very real chance that Republicans may win the Senate.

A Republican-controlled Senate would be terrible news for U.S. national security. Imagine what the GOP could do to reverse all of the progress made in the last few years – kill the New START treaty, torpedo negotiations with Iran, and ramp up nuclear spending to Cold War levels and beyond.

That’s why I’m asking you to contribute to Senate candidates endorsed by Council for a Livable World.

Council for a Livable World has worked for more than 50 years to elect candidates to the Senate and House of Representatives who are dedicated to progressive national security policies and the eventual elimination of all nuclear weapons. The Council has helped to put 131 U.S. Senators in office, including Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Edward Kennedy, Barbara Boxer and Elizabeth Warren.

When you donate to candidates endorsed by Council for a Livable World, your donation goes directly to the candidates.

To help keep the Senate in Democratic hands, please contribute to Shenna Bellows, Jeff Merkley and Bruce Braley today!

SHENNA BELLOWS (D-ME) is quickly becoming a heroine for progressives around the country – she’s been called the Elizabeth Warren of civil liberties. Bellows built a career working as a grassroots activist on issues such as marriage equality, civil liberties and limiting drone strikes. Now, she’s channeling that experience, and her strong support for nuclear arms control into an impressive grassroots campaign to beat Republican Senator Susan Collins.
JEFF MERKLEY (D-OR) was identified by Council for a Livable World in his first race for Senate as a rising progressive hero. In just one term, he’s proven that to be true, helping to pass the New START treaty, bring U.S. troops home from Afghanistan and reform the filibuster. But in a sign of the changing political tides, Merkley’s once-safe seat is now being eyed by Republican Monica Wehby, who’s making Merkley’s re-election tougher than anticipated.
BRUCE BRALEY (D-IA) is a staunch progressive who’s done great work in the House of Representatives as a champion of the middle class, veterans, and others who need a strong advocate in Congress. Now, in his first run for Senate, he’s facing a slate of far-right Republican challengers. And what’s worse, the billionaire Koch brothers are pouring money into the race in an effort to turn the seat red.

Please contribute to these three candidates who need your help to win this November.

Thanks for supporting candidates who will work toward a progressive vision for U.S. national security.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
