For the last several years, I've held a meet-up at my summer cottage. In previous years, I've aimed the invitation at people who swim in the kiddie pool (a.k.a. Bill in Portland Maine's Cheers and Jeers), but this year I figured I'd write a diary with the invitation, in case anyone else wants to join in the fun ;-)

The details:

A meet-up at The Point (my family's summer cottage in the western hills of Maine), this time on Saturday, July 12, noon to 6:00 p.m. (approximately......very approximately) in western Maine (about a scenic hour drive northwest from Portland, and maybe three hours from the Boston metro area).

Same deal as other years:

I’ll gladly cook and have beer and assorted other beverages.

Just a little food:

Shabbat lunch for a crowd

Lake should be warm enough for fun if anyone wants. We have a canoe, a kayak, and plenty of rocks to swim to (and to scrape knees on....).

Dogs (well-behaved....) welcome, but Hobbs and Penn prefer to be the only kitties ;-)

Hobbs and the late Molly, faithful companion to Bill in Portland Maine and Common Sense Mainer:

Hobbs meets Molly

Pictures to entice anyone debating joining us are here.

Can't promise the weather will be like this (it is Maine, after all...), but it is more than possible:

View from dock

If anyone wants to spend Friday and/or Saturday night (for fun, or because it's a long drive.....), I've got room for several, plus some tenting space.  For more information/exact directions or to RSVP, email me at killearnan at or send a Kosmail.

Hobbs enjoying the kiddie pool ;-)

Please ~ do me a favor and RSVP. There's a fair bit of space for people but the largest number of cars I've managed is 10 (9 plus mine), so if we are getting close to that, I need to make arrangements with the neighbors to park a few cars elsewhere.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
