Eric Cantor (R-VA) speaks at the Values Voter Summit, 2011.
House Majority Eric Cantor got creamed in his primary last night by an aggressively anti-immigration tea party challenger, and there's nobody happier about it than ... other Republicans. At least, some other Republicans.
Virginia, you have redeemed yourself tonight!  God bless America.
In 1994 I defeated the most powerful member of Congress in one of Texas' most heavily Democrat districts. No one can outrun angry voters.
As I have said, the Tea Party is alive and well and fighting hard for the USA. BIG WIN TODAY!
Here's the message from Virginia: You either stand with Americans or you stand with the invaders.
Hey Jeb Bush -- ahem... #cantor #amnesty
At a GOP fundraiser tonight, the "party pretty much ended" when word spread that Cantor lost.
What does it mean? Other than the part where Eric Cantor, of all people, is no longer conservative enough to represent the new ever-more-crazy Republican Party? We'll see.
Republican Party way more hostile to immigration reform than previously thought is not the narrative the GOP was hoping for this year
How conservative is david brat? He still calls undocumented migrants "illegals." Not sure even steve king goes with that one anymore
Other very vulnerable GOP incumbents look like Cochran, Bentivolio and DesJarlais. After tonight that list is probably a bit longer
it's the biggest blow to the GOP establishment in years. Whole network of DC Rs have been wired into Cantor, prepping for when he got gavel
Cantor's friends are FURIOUS, said he was told by consultants that he was up 20-30 points, didn't need to worry...
national GOP strategist: "nothing will advance in the House again. Ever. House GOP members will not take a single risk."

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
