CNN reports President Bush had no idea about a Shite or a Sunni Muslim and their history.Had the President done his homework, he would have learned these two factions hatred of each
other dates back to the 7th century. Mohammad was the supreme ruler, he died in 632

The division became alive when the Shitie's  and Sunni fought  over how the next leader
should be chosen. The Sunni folks said the leader should come from an agreement or
should the leader be a direct descendant of Mohammad, as the Shite people wanted.

Over the centuries, these two groups have learned to really hate each other.

Unless you are okay with having American troops in Iraq forever, then be in favor
of trying to help Iraq's current leader. Nouri -al Malikis  is the current leader. He
is not popular with Sunni folks, and you should know we are getting in between sides
in a religious war.

Iraq is a large Country. It should be divided into 3 separate Countries. The Kurds in
the north have always deserved their own nation. Over 4 million people make them
the largest group with a country of their own. They lost over 100,000 people to
Saddam and his monsters. Bush the 1st promised he would protect them after
their help in the 1st Gulf war: he lied.

America should stay the hell AWAY from these two groups in Iraq. What  magical thing
will happen to make the Sunni people and Shiite people best friends? The Kurds should
have their own country. If Iraq falls, and a new platform is used to conquer Syria and
Jordon and Lebanon, Peace keeping groups from several nations should be placed
to keep the folks contained while they kill each other.

There are over 260 groups of Islam people spread all over the World. Boko Haram
is said to have killed over a thousand people in Nigera. He want's an Islamic state.
Please look under the fold.

Our nation's thinking HAS to be prepared for an  attack from anywhere in the World.
Republican's will tell you this current Iraq mess lies at the feet of our President.
Many Americans will believe whatever a conservative tells them.

Lets move forward and fight for better use of our tax money and most important: keep
our young from dying.

Let's make a loud noise in this country that we need to learn from the past and not
do the same thing again.

America's infra-structure is falling apart. I don't want you to get killed from a bridge falling down or building that crumbles.

I wish the World was a better place, It isn't and Evil is winning in certain areas. Good
will win someday. Let it happen soon.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

we should stay out of Iraq. I always though that Iraq should be 3 countries.

dividing Iraq into 3s.  As has been pointed out before, if the Kurds somehow "deserve" their own nation, then there is a long list of other peoples who are displaced and/or disenfranchised who are just as deserving of their own country.

Also, for the Western pundits to weigh in upon this pretends that the US is not only an influencing factor in this conflict but is the deciding factor in the resolution to the conflict.  I think Iran and Turkey and perhaps Russia are geographically, historically, and demographically better situated to have an effect upon the situation.  Already, the Syrian air force is pounding ISIS positions while Iranian volunteers prepare to enter the fray.

As a question to those who would partition the country, the first question is that Saddam relocated large segments of the population to ensure Sunni majorities in areas where they were the traditional minority.  Now we have at least 2 Shia' Holiest of Holy places located in Sunni majority areas.  Do we expect the Shia' to relinquish their shrines?

On the Kurds, they traditionally claim Kirkuk and its oil riches.  Do we expect the Shia' to relinquish control of this city in the case of any split?  After all, without Kirkuk, do the Kurds have a functioning country or merely another state dependent upon outside resources for its survival?

Also, the Kurds traditionally claim Iranian and Turkish territory in addition to Iraqi territory.  In order to have a viable country, do we expect Iran and Turkey to surrender territory, or again, do we end up with a truncated state that would lack the necessary resources to provide for its population without outside intervention?

Just a few thoughts, as I am reading various RW sites that are holding that counties should be free to secede from states if they feel that, due to various factors, they are no longer represented in the legislature.  Division is a quick and dirty solution to an immediate problem but it seldom seems to work out well without foreign support and even intervention as the breakup of the old Yugoslavia taught us

I am quite honest when I admit your logic beats mine.
I feel, however, unsure WHAT we should do next. I see
no logic in wasting time saying how wrong it was to
go to Iraq at all. We did go, maybe we should do nothing.
Have strong defense against something that may happen
in the future. I see no good suggestions as to what our NEXT move should be.
      Thanks for your great message,

I would suggest that we reached an agreement with VN' which I never thought I would live to see.  It appears we will eventually reach some sort of accommodation with Cuba.  China and Russia are supposedly our friends while Germany and Japan are our allies.  Maybe it is time to reach out to Iran and quit the pissing contest

I agree with you. I spent 2 years in Vietnam. I think we
have spilled enough blood. Maybe Iran can help and maybe
Iran and the US can REALLY deal with Iraq and other issues.
