More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

because of the actions of politicians. If a company does something I don't agree with, I will boycott those very specific products because the management of the company has the ability to make changes and improvements. I don't think that orange growers and everyone in the product chain for making Florida orange juice should pay an economic penalty for the actions of their state politicians.

How about this, we help elect a state legislature and governor who want to change the SYG law?

...always be collateral damage in a boycott. That's part of the reason why it works.

When the South African government was running a racist police state, they got boycotted:

The Stockbroker who sold the bond...
...that was rated by the Agency...
...and was underwritten by the Bank...
...and was backed by gold mined by the Mining Company... boycotted because of what the Government of South Africa was doing.

All these players wailed and moaned and whined that they couldn't be responsible for the SA Government and many of them weren't responsible.

      But the boycott worked.

I don't know if stand-your-ground is a heinous as running an apartheid police state, but if there was a serious boycott, FL would fold. Many innocents would suffer economic damage, but it would work.

Why should I miss the best OJ because the state has dumb right-wing politicians? Not my fault and not the fault of the OJ producers.

Plus Zimmerman didn't use a stand your ground defense anyway. He used plain old self defense.

If you want to hit the state's economy (IOW plunge its workforce into desperation) boycott tourism - but the oil industry will destroy that sooner of later anyway. Or, you could boycott everything made from Florida phosphate - lawn fertilizers, carbonated drinks.
Or, if you want to really impact the Florida politicians, boy cott Disneyworld.

I voted Tuesday, May 6, 2014 because it is my right, my responsibility and because my parents moved from Alabama to Ohio to vote. Unfortunately, the republicons want to turn Ohio into Alabama.

Florida OJ has been a staple of mine for 30+ years! I loved going to the orange groves, buying fresh picked oranges and OJ squeezed right there at the stand.
These growers are already having a very bad year with disease destroying their trees, I'm not going to stop buying their OJ just because 4 years ago right wingers elected that asshole for governor!

    •  SYG in Florida was inacted in 2005 (0+ / 0-)

and signed into law by Jeb Bush.  Florida was the first state in the nation to sign the NRA backed statue into law.  25 other states quickly followed suit.

As much as I loathe Rick Scott (and I surely do as a Floridian), this one is on Jeb.  It's but one more thing to pin to his suit and tie if he decides to seek National office in 2016.

As a Floridian I don't back any boycott's because if one chooses to boycott Florida they ought to boycott the other states too.
