Ukraine's foreign minister has precipitated a diplomatic row with Russia after referring to President Vladimir Putin as a "dickhead."
Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsia addressing a crowd of Ukranian protesters Saturday evening outside the Russian embassy in Kiev when he made the comment. The protests were in response to pro-Russian separatists having shot down a Ukrainian military transport plane, killing all 49 people aboard.
"We must fulfill our international obligations, including defending the right of Russia to have an embassy in Ukraine," Deshchytsia told the protesters. But when the crowd began to shout him down, protesters, he added: "Did I say that I am against you protesting? I am for you protesting. I am ready to be here with you and say 'Russia, get out of Ukraine'."
"Yes, Putin is a dickhead, yes," he went on to say and the protesters responded by chanting the phrase.
Russia, already furious about the protests, did not take kindly to Deshchytsia's remark. Alexei Pushkov, the head of the Russian parliament's committee on international affairs, took to Twitter to suggest that new Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko "ought to change" his foreign minister. He added that Deshchytsia does not "control himself" very well, and he might get drunk and "barf all over the U.N. General Assembly."
There has been no official comment yet from the dick... er, President Putin.
