Mary Burke at her family's company, Trek Bicycle
There's just no question that Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker badly regrets wishing he could wield a branding iron on the skulls of his advisors:
"I want my Cabinet secretaries to have branded across their heads, '250,000 jobs,'" Walker said at a December 2010 meeting of the Dairy Business Association. "I want them to know their job is on the line because my job is on the line to create 250,000 jobs in the private sector."
The actual number of private sector jobs created since Walker took office is, in fact,
just 101,000, so it's no surprise that Walker's long since dropped the rhetoric about turning his staff into cattle. Instead, he's just
made up comical figures about job creation, even counting Boy Scout troops in his "statistics."
And that's just left his Democratic opponent, Mary Burke, a giant opening to shred Walker's embarrassing claims, week after week. In fact, she's utterly taken him to school:
"In 2010, Governor Walker laid out his jobs plan," says Burke, who touts her own business experience as an executive at Trek Bicycle Corp. "It was four pages long. And if you took out the pictures of himself, it was more like two. Frankly, I've seen eighth grade term papers that have more work put into them."
That's a branding iron-hot burn. One of the pictures was probably of
one of these.
