Hahaha, no, I'm just kidding. Only the first part of that title is true:
The Carbon County Commission has approved a resolution pertaining to the balance and distribution of jurisdictional power between the county and the government of the United States.
Resolution 2014-3 was passed at the regular commission meeting on Wednesday, June 5th. It gives the Federal Government notice that the county will exercise its rights to enforce laws, and maintain its rights to access and travel. The resolution asserts that planning and zoning authority for all lands within its borders is an exclusive right of Carbon County. It further declares that Carbon County will continue to support efforts to gain local control of public lands, and demands that the Federal Government dispose and convey all right, title and interest thereto to the State of Utah.
The resolution was spearheaded by County Public Lands Director, and Roads, Access and Safety Administrator Rex Sacco, with legal counsel from Deputy County Attorney Christian Bryner.
Sacco, who looks like Captain Kangaroo if Captain Kangaroo had eaten Wilford Brimley, publicly opposed an attempt to put Nine Mile Canyon on the National Register of Historic Places, warning in a letter that it would be a precursor to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an eventual U.N. takeover of Carbon County.
Sacco's resolution, which passed quickly and unanimously, also states that attempts by Federal law enforcement (read: BLM) to enforce Federal statutes would constitute a "threat to the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Carbon County."
But don't worry. The USPS continues to deliver mail to the 20,000 or so citizens of Carbon County. The National Park Service continues to maintain and service Manti National Forest. And you can bet dollars to jelly donuts that Rex Sacco continues to collect Social Security checks while LARPing -- on your nickel.
I'm not suggesting that it should surprise anybody that a county like Carbon is run by a guy like Uncle Pecos Sacco. The sun is very powerful in that part of the country and you can get heat stroke very quickly if you fail to hydrate properly and wear protective clothing. Heat stroke, if it does not kill you, makes you what doctors call "very, very stupid," and then your pants fall down, and soon reality becomes harder and harder to discern from Things Cliven Bundy Says.
But now that the Federal government has passed on challenging armed sedition and enforcing existing laws when armed white men flagrantly break them, why does it imagine that more counties won't go the way of Carbon? I don't see why they wouldn't. The next ones in line will probably be counties with BLM land through which no interstate highways pass. If left unchecked, they'll embolden more.
