Paul Mulshine is a Newark (NJ) Star-Ledger conservative/libertarian house columnist. I sometimes agree with him, and usually admire his use of the language.
Today (07/19/14) he has a column
On Iraq, I hate to say I told you so--well, not really
He quotes Fred Hiatt of the Washington Post on the US posture across the Middle East:
Hiatt then went on to argue, "Unfortunately, disengagement turns out not to work."
and rejoins
... Americans have concluded that it's not disengagement that doesn't work. It's engagement.
More below the fold.
He then quotes Krauthammer on the lack of past and prospective conflict between Shi'a and Sunni, and comments
That was the noted "neoconservative" Charles Krautheimer. Unfortunately, what he's noted for is getting everything wrong ...
Who got it right? Me, that's who. In 2005 ...
More, from Mulshine and others (especially former CIA agent Bob Baer) quoted therein: "You turn the Middle East over to terrorists", "You're talking about a ... complete meltdown", and in particular
You would need several hundred thousand American troops to secure Baghdad now"
....
And anyone who thinks the current mess ... was caused by a lack of U.S. military intervention has lost all contact with reality.
