Received this e-mail today from Charlie Crist's (D. FL) gubernatorial campaign:
This week, Charlie officially qualified as a candidate for governor -- and the first thing he did was sit down with teachers to discuss the most important issue in this election: Education.

Here are three things you should know right now about Rick Scott's record of abandoning our kids' futures:

(1) He cut the number of Bright Futures scholarships in half. That puts college out of reach for some of our most talented kids -- and in the long run, limits their opportunity to get a good job and build a stronger Florida.

It just doesn't make sense -- why would you make it harder for smart Floridians to afford college?

(2) His first year in office, Rick Scott cut education spending by $1.3 billion. That's $1.3 billion that could have been spent on things like classroom resources, teachers' jobs and training, and school administrative needs -- but he just didn't care. Scott is actively undermining our kids' chances at success.

Pass this image along -- a simple but effective way to make sure everyone knows this stat:

(3) Under Rick Scott, we're spending less per-student than we did when Charlie was governor. This story is appalling:

"Eight of the 10 jurisdictions with the greatest drops have Republican governors, most of whom have made a big deal out of cutting taxes. Nor are we talking about a slight dip. In those eight states, 2012 per-pupil spending was lower than in 2009 even before accounting for inflation."

In Florida, per-pupil spending is almost $200 lower than it was in the last pre-recession budget.

Read this story -- then pass it along:

If you do one thing this week to help take Florida back from the corporations and special interests who run the show, do this:

Share the facts, and make sure everyone you know is talking about how Rick Scott has hurt our schools. Our kids and teachers deserve a governor who cares about them.

Thanks,

Scott Free Florida

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

and highlighting what Crist is starting to do about Scott.  I still can't believe that FL citizens voted in that creep.

I also found it interesting and very, very sad how WI is leading the country in cuts to education.  That chart should be part of WI Democrat's efforts against Walker.

Scott won because hardly anyone voted and he still barely made it in. Not only did he cut education benefits, he also cut state employee pay by making them contribute into the pension system using the excuse that the system was in trouble. That was a lie. But I guess we shouldn't be surprised about that.

against Crist saying he increased college tuition 15% while he was governor.

This is straight out of the Republican playbook. Identify the weaknesses of the R candidate and attack the D candidate on the same issue first.

    What about the climate cliff?

they came into play after he left office.  Most of us with kids know that. Crist had a lot to clean up after Jeb.  He will be busy cleaning up after Scott.

There is an add running for Crist hammering on Scott's fraud with Medicare.  It shows Scott pleading the fifth and saying will you repeat that I don't understand over and over again.

There has been alot of hand shaking and public appearances.  He is mentioned regularly on local media.  Scott runs from reporters and Crist jumps in front of cameras. Scott isn't much of a speaker and Crist lights up a crowd.  Scott has already spent 20 million so far and only gets a toss up for it.  Crist is just now getting on the air in some markets. The important thing is Crist has one of Obama's election team setting up GOTV offices in the state.  There is going to be a ground game to counter balance all the air war that Scott has bought. Scott won't hold up face to face with a debate with Crist. Scott can't handle reporters and their questions. Keep in mind that Florida is hard to pole in the Summer.  Many retirees are away on trips.
