Over on the right, one the one hand, you've got folks like Sen. Rand Paul
saying that they oppose U.S. military intervention in Iraq, and on
the other hand you've got guys like Dick Cheney:
“Rand Paul, by my standards as I look at his philosophy, is basically an isolationist. That didn’t work in the 1930s and it sure as heck won’t work in the aftermath of 9/11 when 19 guys armed with airline tickets and box cutters came all the way from Afghanistan and killed 3,000 of our citizens.”
I think we'll just have to give this round to Rand by technical knockout, because pretty much anything Dick Cheney says about Iraq has repeatedly been proven wrong, and not just mistakenly wrong, but the kind of wrong that only comes from lying. But Cheney fans like Michael Goldfarb think they finally have Rand Paul where they want him, because:
On the right, “You’re seeing skirmishes all over the place, people testing each other,” Goldfarb said. “I would say it’s a big problem for them that their foreign policy looks like Obama’s. That’s what a lot of these skirmishes are about.”
Who knows. Maybe Goldfarb is right. Maybe Republicans are so stupid that they'll take Cheney's side merely because Rand Paul's position is closer to Obama's than to the neocons. But if that's the case, and Goldfarb wants to beat Paul, then he'd better hope Obama doesn't do what Cheney wants, because then—
gasp—Goldfarb would be on Obama's side, which apparently is the last place he wants to be.
