Seven states are holding primaries or runoffs tonight. Our
guide to the key races can be found here. Oklahoma will hold a runoff on Aug. 26 in races where no candidate wins more than 50 percent tonight. We'll be bringing you tonight's results as they come in, and you can keep track of all the winners just below:
Results & Poll Closing Times (all times Eastern):
4:20 PM PT (David Nir): FL-19: Republican businessman Curt Clawson has won the special election to replace ex-Rep. Trey Radel, who resigned earlier this year after a conviction for cocaine possession. Tonight's election was really just a formality, though, in this heavily Republican district; the real battle was in the GOP primary back in April.
5:01 PM PT (David Nir): Polls are now closed in a couple of states with big GOP Senate primaries tonight: Mississippi and Oklahoma.
5:16 PM PT (David Nir): MS-Sen: Here's a very nice widget from the WaPo that allows you to compare tonight's county-by-county results with those from primary night. You'll be able to see if Cochran or McDaniel is doing better or worse than previously at a glance.
5:21 PM PT (David Nir): MD-Gov: It looks like Maryland's elections board is ahead of the AP's count in the early going. It's all just early votes so far, but Anthony Brown has a big lead.
5:24 PM PT (David Nir): OK-Sen: There's now a trickle of votes here, too. Still nothing from MS, which counted very slowly on primary night.
5:31 PM PT (David Nir): Huh, check this out. The AP now offers interactive versions of their election results. Here's Oklahoma, though you can just edit the URL to see other states.
5:34 PM PT (David Nir): But Oklahoma's own website seems to be ahead of the AP, at least for now. Serious junkies will want to keep both tabs open, as this sort of thing can flip-flop all night. Indeed, in Maryland, the AP now seems to have leapfrogged the state.
5:35 PM PT (David Nir): SC-LG: The AP has called the GOP primary for former state AG Henry McMaster. He'll face Democratic state Rep. Bakari Sellers in the fall.
5:38 PM PT (David Nir): MS-Sen: Finally, a few votes. The AP's interactive version shows they're from Jasper county.
5:45 PM PT (David Nir): OK-Sen: We're up to 6% reporting and Rep. James Lankford is already out to a 57-34 lead on former state House Speaker T.W. Shannon. However, the turf that's reporting so far is mostly Lankford's. If he can hold on, though, he'd be able to avoid a runoff.
5:54 PM PT (David Nir): OK-Sen: Up to 13% now and Lankford's lead is still holding steady at 56-34. MD and MS are still reporting just tiny numbers of votes so far, though Anthony Brown leads by a wide margin in MD-Gov.
5:58 PM PT (David Nir): MS-Sen: Just jumped out to 8% reporting and Cochran's taken a wide 58-42 lead, but it's still quite early.
5:59 PM PT (David Nir): The liveblog continues here.
