We may some day look back on the anti-Hillary squirrel as the least stupid moment in the Republican campaign against her.
Anyone holding out hope that a future Hillary Clinton presidential run will be met with slightly less froth and spittle than the famed spittle-fest of the 1990's
should probably look away now.
An author who Fox News hosts insisted had “impeccable” sources told the network on Tuesday that former President Bill Clinton had considered using his own death to help Hillary Clinton win the presidency. [...]
The author said that he had also learned that Bill Clinton had smiled when he was diagnosed with a “progressive” heart condition because the term sounded liberal.
“And he’s discussed with Hillary, according to people who were in the room with them when he did it, what would happen if he died,” Klein said. “What should Hillary do? And what is said is, ‘Hillary, you should put on widow’s weeds, dress in black, and it would be worth a couple of million votes.”
That'd be Ed Klein, author of several excruciatingly stupid books hyping theories about Hillary-as-lesbian and the like, who gets to be on Fox News because Fox News is the Drudge Report of this decade. There's still a Drudge Report, last I checked, but nobody cares anymore because nobody needs to go there for their daily fix of crackpot. Now we've got Real News Organizations quoting Alex Jones theories, and James O'Keefe making sure no tape goes un-fudged-with, and Sean Hannity is very, very interested in some desert nut's theory that the federal lands aren't really federal lands because reasons, and Ed Klein here gets to go on Fox & Friends and dish on what unnamed, mysterious "sources" tell him because hey, Fox News has got a
lot of time to fill. (Even if by some miracle of God and nature Ed Klein managed to lay his hands on a real quote in this case, mind you, it would show little more than that Bill Clinton has a considerably more developed sense of humor than Ed Klein does. Cough.)
We're all screwed, you know. Think about the bad old '90s, back when every boy and their dog had a Clinton conspiracy theory to sell and every one of them got media attention to tell them. Think about the level to which Darrell Issa and his three-ring investibatory theater have promoted every last pseudo-scandal anyone on the fringes could come up with for the last six years. Coming up with crackpot theories and selling them on Fox News is what they do; heaven help us by the time the 2016 races roll around.
