Our friend, MsSpentyouth, is a force of nature, a phenomenal activist in the red State of North Carolina and a fixture of the registration desk at Netroots Nation, who also happens to be very ill.

After two rounds of chemo for breast cancer in the late 1980s and early 1990s, she suffered damage to her bone marrow.  She also has non cancerous tumors in her brain and on several endocrine glands.  These conditions have left her disabled and unable to hold a steady job.  And although she has SSDI, there is a gap in coverage which, due to her residence in this Red State, has left her without the extended coverage under ACA to which those of us in Blue States have access.  MsSpentyouth needs the cash to pay co-pays or some of her doctors, including her endrocrinologist, will not see her.  Seriously -- once, recently, she had only $50 of the $70 co-pay and she was turned away.

I swear, it is like we are living in two different countries where health care is concerned and it really is not fair.

Thanks to your generosity earlier in the month, we helped MsSpentyouth keep her lights and water on and helped her buy the medicine she needs.  She was able to keep several doctor's appointments because of you and has received half of the infusions that she needs to treat her bone marrow.  We got her through a lot -- but she has more appointments coming up, more infusions, more medicine to buy.  In order to relieve the anxiety over the financial needs coming up over the summer, we are looking for a further $2800...

TO SEND PAYPAL DONATIONS TO MSSPENTYOUTH, go to and send funds to kim [DOT] yaman [AT] gmail [DOT] com or message me for an address should you prefer a check.
Your kind investment in this activist angel will help her continue to:

- Participate in every Moral Monday protest.  She's been arrested, convicted, and has made nine court appearances so far and with more to come.  In her condition, that is very brave.

- Haunt the State Legislature like a Dickensian Spirit (they all know and respect her there very well!)

- Phone bank for Kay Hagan and other progressive candidates.

- And generally show up for every action that matters in North Carolina.

MsSpentyouth is very connected in North Carolina -- she has networked very well over the years, so well in fact that there are candidates that wish she were well enough to work professionally in their campaigns.  Alas, her health won't permit.  Regardless, she does what she can, and what she can do generally makes the rest of us look like very sad slackers...  I feel that way, anyway.  She honestly amazes me and I am in awe of what she accomplishes.

Please help if you can.

UPDATE 1:  We have an offer of a match up to $100 -- this is an opportunity to double your gift!

UPDATE 2: The $100 match has been met -- any others?

UPDATE 3: So far, counting the matching funds which are yet to come in, we have $480 -- $2320 to go!

UPDATE 4: I am pleased to report that as of this morning, Kim has received $835, only $1965 to go!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
