I am a very fortunate American for whom the American Dream has become a reality.

I am going through a major life change which will allow me the freedom to set my own schedule and some resources to create interesting projects for myself - my primary interests being music and politics.

One idea I am considering is to go to Washington on a semi-regular basis to collect representatives answers to questions from regular Americans and posting it to a website.  I don't know the real value of this project, but I'd be fascinated to know what your most important questions would be.

[Your comments will help me decide whether this is a good idea or not...]

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Ok, that's just a rhetorical question: I know why.

    Here's a question

How far do you "representatives" think you can push the AMreican people before they pour into the street and rage against the injustice?
The answer will be "as far as we want. Americans are actually permanently cowed. They won't act up for anything, other than probably interruptions in TV shows.

Sure, Americans protest, but the "representatives" hold this in disdain - all it does it make their agenda take longer to impose. Their agenda has never had a huge setback. (Obamacare wasnt a genuine setback. They just whine.)

Those shits are out of touch and they wouldn't care if they were in touch. This is the whole point of getting elected: to insulate yourself from the real world, make a shit-ton of money, have the power to change laws so you can keep YOUR money, etc....

They know what's right and what's wrong and they don't really need our feedback: they shit like we do but they don't believe it anymore.

    they are sociopaths.

    Good luck mingling with them.

    Legal means "good".

    1) will you show your support for term limits by restricting yourself to no more than 3?
    2) what are three specific and measurable successes you're responsible for that have pushed a progressive agenda forward or protected Main St's interests (vs. Wall St's)?
    3) what is your plan to introduce single payer health care to Americans so we can be in the top 10 of countries in terms of our health care system and coverage?
    4) do you think health care is a human right, and if not, why?
    5) is access to clean water a right, if not, why?
    6) what have you done to ensure your constituents and others have adequate access to public transportation and safe infrastructure?
On my iPad so hard to type. These are just a few off the top of my head. Good luck, and congrats on your new life situation!

  •  PS I want to know what YOU want to ask (0+ / 0-)

Your diary is so open ended, to elicit feedback, but I'm interested in what you are planning to ask. And what will u do, videotape the interviews? Blog about it? How will u provide proof/corroboration that ppl quoted indeed said what you're reporting back? Will there b an opportunity for dialog? Will u invite them to DKos for an online interview with us a la Reddit?

    •  Good questions... (0+ / 0-)

I need to do some research about what they will allow regarding recording.  I like the idea of video best, because it's the most revealing, but I don't know if they'll allow it.

Regarding follow-up, I hope it would elicit some dialog and possibly invitations to participate.  I haven't looked into DKs online interviews, but I like the idea.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

    •  Sorry, I didn't answer your question (0+ / 0-)

I meant to add that I would ask them to explain their policy positions and voting records on important issues, and how they plan to implement these policies to help the American people - the 99%. Hopefully I'd be able to ask follow up questions to elicit a more open ended dialog.  I'm interested in knowing what their governing principles are as well as their priorities, and put them on record as to whether they work for the people or the corporate interests.

I'd also like to expose them to our readers and other 'regular' Americans - their constituents - who live outside the Beltway bubble.  I don't think they really know what goes on in our daily lives and the challenges people are facing to just get by.  They only hear a lot of cliches and stereotypes being tossed around.

A few examples might be (some are my pet peeves):

Do you believe corporations are people and why?

What is your position on Citizen's United and how have you fought to change the campaign finance system?

Do you accept global warming and if not, how do you explain the overriding consensus by the scientific community?

Do you support the Keystone Pipeline and if so, how does that issue fit with your understanding of global warming?

What should our role be in the middle east?

How helpful have Saudi Arabia been in resolving the current Iraq crisis, what is their current role, and what should it be?

How would you like the U.S. to handle the current relationship between the U.S. and Iran? Cuba? Israel? Russia?

What is your position on gun control? Do you support an assault weapons ban?  What about limits on handgun magazines?
