The primaries in Mississippi have put a lot into play. Now I'm wondering what would really get out the vote and change Mississippi blue?
I'll admit I've never been to Mississippi, as I live in Washington State, clear on the other side. My guess is that people are coming across similar issues and want what's best for their communities and families. The Tea Party community wants things a lot different than most people and there is no negotiation with extremism. Saying that, they are nowhere near the majority. I could only image what it would of been like if CNN gave the Green party total access to their media outlets in 2000 to make the left go towards Obamination before Obama got the keys to the liberal media car that does drive-bys. Al Gore would say Clinton wasn't liberal enough and support fair trade over free trade. That never happened.
The Tea Party did get a big media megaphone and they still have it to some degree. The Koch Industries get what they pay for and they seem to like to pay people to take Obama down until he dies. What the Democrats need is a bigger, better, and cooler megaphone than the Kochs. I thought of a couple of dreamy scenarios that have a snowball's chance in hell of happening, but what if......
1. Bill Clinton moved to Mississippi with Howard Dean to run a get out the vote operation. They would focus on Mississippi and train organizers in the south to get out of the vote for democratic candidates all over the reddest of the red states.
2. Create a grassroots voting and local government education programs to get more people involved in the process.
3. Create alliances with all groups, including finding ways to create solutions with opposing politically charged groups.
4. Create, test before using, and deploy a way to use social media to generate hype around the election that brings a large, younger, group of voters.
Maybe this will happen. I know that the Democrat running isn't near progressive, but maybe a progressive movement happening in his state would shift his thinking. Politicians can be molded and the Tea Party is doing a better job of molding candidates as far right fascists and our moderate candidates as more commie than Obama. We need to make the Tea Party candidates look like Harry Reid and mold the moderate Democrats to be the next Bernie Sanders.
