Pundits have much to crow about as of late. Dick is back in the news with his blatant denial of responsibility for the Iraq debacle. In Florida you can shoot someone dead and say you were scared as a defense, yet women seeking to enter a clinic without being harassed have no recourse. Most of all everyone is postulating on the 2016 elections and the possibility of another dynasty family taking power.

If we want progressive change to take place we need to mobilize enough votes to take back the House and keep the Senate. The presidency is forever safe given the extremism of the right, yet in order to accomplish anything a total majority (61 senate and 50%+1 in the House) as well as an honest couple in the White House is required.

It is both unfortunate and true that the majority of the politicians in Congress and those that wish to become President and Vice-President, wish to gain or maintain their positions for two reasons: their own self interest and/or to obstruct and tear down the system of government as we know it.

Along with the turnout needed for the securing of Congress (which can be done), we need a team of candidates that represent common sense, the idea of representing the people, and a progressive science based outlook on policy.

Elizabeth Warren and Angus King.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

involve in the first place a refusal of the cast of mind that sees in the recourse to violence the solution to all problems: surely we've had enough of war, invasions, missiles, drones, bombs as the principal means of US foreign policy and which have invariably led to disasters

we need someone who has been consistently against military intervention and foreign adventurism of any kind

we certainly don't need any more dynasties

We're shocked by a naked nipple, but not by naked aggression.

  •  Angus King is not a Democrat. (1+ / 0-)

Surprising virtually no one, Sen.-elect Angus King, I-Maine, said Wednesday that he plans to caucus with Senate Democrats, because "affiliating with the majority makes the most sense."

King won a decisive election last week to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe and throughout his yearlong campaign refused to say with which party he would caucus once he arrived in Washington.

Despite his decision, King didn't rule out joining with Republicans in two years if they retake the majority and said he had several constructive conversations with GOP senators.

"By associating myself with one side, I am not in automatic opposition to the other," King told reporters.

  •  Baudelaire was a monarchist (0+ / 0-)

and very reactionary.  A great poet, nonetheless.

Funny how his name has come up recently on DK.  A new poster, a self-confessed conservative, has a long Baudelaire quote in his sig line.

    It's the Supreme Court, stupid!
