The bodies of three murdered Jewish teenagers were found under a pile of rocks. A tragedy, just a sheer tragedy. But the senseless death of these three students goes beyond the inexplicable loss of these children to their parents. The murders will again - for so many times in the Middle East -reduce the search for peace to inconsequential mutterings by both Israelis and Palestinians.
The destructive whirlwind of outrage, revenge and hate-filled recriminations will once sweep through this part of the world that has been known blood-letting for centuries. Along with the Jewish victims, the cause of peace has been sacrificed on the sword of barbarism. If there was ever a glimmer of hope that Israelis and Palestinians could find some compromise to their standoff, that hope is close to extinguished.
The question of why these Jewish students were murdered will resound off the hills of this ancient land, but there will not be reason or even sanity in the answer. Peace once again has failed to find a foothold in this land of three faiths.
