I'm living in NYC now, but I was thrilled to see Roger Daltry is playing a benefit concert in my hometown, Philly, and all proceeds from the concert, at the Kimmel Center on July 28, go to building a center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for teens with cancer.
This is part of The Who Cares Teen Cancer America.
I was thrilled to read about it, but it was even more interesting to hear Daltrey's experiences trying to get some American rockers to donate their time for the event.
"One of the things we're struggling with is getting more Americans involved, more American entertainers like myself, the backbone of the music industry was this age group, and I feel like if you've been successful and you've made it, just by donating a bit of your time, a bit of your energy, even if it's just talking about what we are trying to achieve now," Daltrey wrote. "And I could do with more support from some of that side of the business. And I don't mind saying so, because your country baffles me. In Britain, any kind of charity work is unconditional. In America they kind of expect to get paid for it, I find that extraordinary."

This is most likely a small sample size, and there are wonderful giving people everywhere, from all over. But his comments do touch on our culture. Even if what he says infuriates you, you have to admit that it touches a nerve, and it is quite compatible with our culture and our economic system.
Please watch for my upcoming novel, about Corporations as gods in this country! Exciting Summer release!!
