An old Pennsylvania man was tied up and locked in a closet while robbers helped themselves to his stereo and television.
Oh, and a good portion, or maybe ALL, of his gun collection, including historic pistols, rifles, shotguns... and an AK-47.
He was able to free himself after they left and summon police, who later made two arrests and recovered seventeen weapons - apparently some of the thirty-one stolen. One of the robbers was also charged with resisting arrest and escape. Other offenders are still at large.
Once there was a crash outside the building where my partner and I (law enforcement) were lying low in hopes of catching a woman ripping off her employers, friends of mine. We ran out to find an older woman, dazed behind the wheel, not only with her car on the sidewalk in that busy neighborhood but perpendicular to the street. She told us "The car just went crazy!"
I am not blaming the victim, but those buying one gun after another are not thinking ahead to the end of their mortal lives.
As with aging motorists who stubbornly refuse to stop driving despite increasingly alarming near-misses, fender benders, and full-blown accidents, expect to see this keep happening as middle-aged gun "collectors" become old, forgetful, and negligent about giving away what they can no longer handle - little (if any) of which they needed in the first place, since who hunts for food anymore? - or properly securing their "Second Amendment" purchases.
