When reading about Hobby Lobby it got me thinking of a way that we could get around all of the new found religious rights that companies want to engage in. Follow below and add on in the comments section
I was looking through papers in my office and came across my employment contract which outlined what I would be paid and what my responsibilities are. Each year from September to November we have our open enrollment period where we get to decide what two health plans we want to use and who gets covered. We are given a huge booklet that outlines what the plans cover and not cover which got me to thinking of these ideas.
1. If Hobby Lobby was willing to exercise its right to refuse certain parts of the health plan that they were offering was this made known to employees at the time of hiring and if not could I take legal action for a breach of contract?
2. Could companies that want to exercise religious rights when it comes to health plan options have to make that public to their employees?
3. If companies are forced to make know to employees before hiring that they reserve the "religious" right to refuse certain aspects of their health plan, would that be like a scarlet letter and scare prospective employees away?
4. Do companies get a tax break for what they pay for their employees health care and if so can we do anything legally to take that away from them?
These are just my thoughts, if any of you are lawyers who are more likely in the know, please comment below.
