I had two hours to kill on Sunday afternoon and decided to spend it at the movies. I had wanted to see "Chef" when it came out but it seemed like they released it to a limited audience. Happily today it just appeared in our area and I sat through a nice little movie.
Follow me below the squiggle for more.
This is the best movie I have seen all summer.
Warning: Nothing gets blown up and there are no expensive CGI special effects in Chef.
This is simply a heart warming story about a guy who hits bottom losing his career, dignity, and his happiness and needs to find it again. And boy does he......you can tell the makers of this movie love food. This is food porn with meat being the main staple. The cooking scenes and culture of a restaurant business are spot on. It made me hungry in the theater.
He is a Disneyland dad who has lost his connection and he gets to know his son on a gourmands food truck road trip across the states. Complete with the kid using his twitter and vines account to document their journey. The dialogue is sharp and witty. The cast just seemed to click with Jon Favreau, Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, Emjay Anthony, Robert Downey Jr., and Scarlett Johansson.
The real charm of this movie is the idea that you can do what you love and have it fulfill you.
