I am sure I'm not the only one who had a nervous chuckle at the stupid proposed Republican ad that likened Obamacare to a scammy circus. Now of course, I had to laugh at all of the glaring falsehoods that they try to portray, yet I felt slightly uncomfortable with how that video is trying to do the exact same thing to their hoped for voters as what they show the circus to be doing.
That the makers of the video are not worried that its intended targets might be insulted to have their 'trusted representatives' try to bedazzle us all with bright colors as they expound lie after lie made me nervous. Do they happily hope to not offend the tea-baggers and open carry jerks by practically coming out and saying 'we think you're stupid enough to fall for our outright lies if we distract you with creepy clowns?
I guess really only two parts of that nonsense have kept repeating in my head after watching it....
1. It keeps echoing in my head; the film-clip's warning of:
'Once you're in you're in for life!'
Taken by itself the words could seem threatening, I guess.
Except, isn't that what you want of your health insurance?
I mean, would you prefer:
'Once you're in we can drop you without warning for any newly determined reason if we suddenly decide you're too expensive.'
(Never mind that taking care of unexpected expenses is exactly why many people have health insurance.)
2. The mandatory vasectomy knife-throw.
It just makes me think, you know?
These would be the same people that (like Hobby Lobby) don't like female birth control.
Never mind that mandatory vasectomies are about as real as seeing your doctor dress like a clown to treat you.
Does this mean that they are simply trying to do away with the act of sex?
If I didn't think that it would be a ridiculous waste of time, I could almost become inspired to create a ridiculous video that details how a secret society of craft-store prudes is looking for a way to deny health coverage to anyone by lying about one of the greatest achievements for the public's health that has ever come to be. Although, I guess my elephant worshiping cult would be at the risk of having their mad-hatted followers provoked into a resentful uprising once the cult's lies were shown to be little more than a direct assault on tea time intelligence.
