The sentence is in for former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin: 10 years in prison.
Ho hum! Just another day in the wonderful crooked gumbo that is Louisiana politics. Anyone who thinks Chicago is the epitome of corruption needs to spend some time in the Pelican State.
Remember former Governor Edwin Edwards? At least he confessed to his sins. When he was opposed by former Klan Grand Dragon David Duke, his unofficial slogan was "Vote for the crook. It's important!"
Hell, another former leader of the state Jimmie Davis just simply declared himself the writer of "You Are My Sunshine", even though he wasn't. Not even Hizzoner Daley had that kind of guts.
It's so bad that my late sister, a longtime resident, once jokingly declared her party affiliation as Communist. She would have been if my mother hadn't stepped in. (OK, this was before she lived there, but Carol always thought she was psychic.)
So, my advice to Republicans trying to unseat Mary Landrieu? Fuggedaboutit! She's the son of Moon. a former New Orleans mayor and sister of Mitch, the current one. In Louisiana politics, legacy means a lot.
