For weeks now, rockets have been raining down on Israel's civilian population from Gaza, courtesy of Hamas. Israelis have as little as 15 seconds to get to a bomb shelter depending on where they live. And on this issue, it is very clear that the leaders of the free world understand who caused this war and who needs to stop: The violent homophobic misogynistic anti-Semitic theocratic terrorists thugs called Hamas. Examples below the fold.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon:
“The Secretary-General condemns the recent multiple rocket attacks on Israel from Gaza. These indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas must stop”

Jen Psaki, spokesperson for the US State Department:
I would remind you who is at fault here, and that is Hamas and the indiscriminate attacks that they have launched against Israel....there’s a difference between Hamas, a terrorist organization that’s indiscriminately attacking innocent civilians in areas where there are innocent civilians in Israel, and the right of Israel to respond and protect their own civilians.
It’s not accurate to say it’s quote/unquote “the Palestinians.” This is Hamas, a terrorist organization that is launching...these rockets. Obviously, if the rockets are – if the rocket fire is brought to an end, I don’t think anybody’s preference, including the Israelis, is an escalation of this. Nobody wants to see a ground invasion. That’s why it’s so important for Hamas to stop the rocket fire against Israeli citizens immediately. That step will reduce tension, will de-escalate, and that’s why we’re having discussions with a range of leaders in the region....because of the indiscriminate attacks from Hamas and the rocket fire that’s coming in, Israel is exercising its right to self-defense.

David Cameron, UK Prime Minister:
The Prime Minister strongly condemned the appalling attacks being carried out by Hamas against Israeli civilians.
The Prime Minister reiterated the UK’s staunch support for Israel in the face of such attacks, and underlined Israel’s right to defend itself from them.

Francois Hollande, President of the French Republic:
Le Président de la République a eu ce soir un entretien téléphonique avec le Premier ministre israélien, Benyamin NETANYAHOU. Il lui a exprimé la solidarité de la France face aux tirs de roquettes en provenance de Gaza. Il lui a rappelé que la France condamne fermement ces agressions. Il appartient au gouvernement israélien de prendre toutes les mesures pour protéger sa population face aux menaces.

Federal Chancellor (of Germany) Angela Merkel:
"The chancellor today telephoned Mr. Netanyahu and condemned without reservation rocket fire on Israel," she said."There is no justification" for such attacks, Merkel told Netanyahu, according to her spokeswoman.

Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper:
Harper reiterated Canada’s steadfast support for Israel and its right to defend itself against terror attacks.

So despite the many comments on a rec listed diary, it is clear that the leaders of the free world have lined up against the theocratic terrorists whom these commenters would allow to rain rockets against civilians without limit and without consequence. Yes, innocent people are suffering, and some are dying. That is a tragedy. But we must remember that had there been no rockets there would be no war now. What is not understandable is how so many on a site that is nominally dedicated to doing everything possible to defeat the theocrats here in America seem to be willing to excuse their behavior elsewhere.
Fri Jul 11, 2014 at 9:09 AM PT: UPDATE: President Obama speaks to PM Netanyahu:
The President reiterated the United States’ strong condemnation of continuing rocket fire into Israel by Hamas and other terrorist organizations in Gaza and reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself against these attacks.

Fri Jul 11, 2014 at 9:13 AM PT: President of the State of Palestine Mahmood Abbas criticized the rocket attacks:
“What are you trying to achieve by sending rockets?” Mr. Abbas asked on Palestine TV, without explicitly naming Hamas, which recently lent its backing to his government after a seven-year rift. “We prefer to fight with wisdom and politics.”

Obama and Abbas realize that the rocket fire needs to stop. Extremist commenters here don't seem to mind them .
