So I would like someone to explain to me how it is that this occurred within the past weeks….
The SCOTUS finds in favor of David Green and Hobby Lobby that "closely held" stock corporations can choose to be exempt from the law based on religious preferences. They are devout Christians, they are always closed on Sundays; so why would they not be thankful for living in a country where they are allowed to express their beliefs and in this most recent case be allowed to deny contraception to their employees? I say this because as I passed my local Hobby Lobby on July 4 2014, INDEPENDENCE DAY FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, they were proud to be open to make another dollar……HYPOCRITES!!!!!!
Mind you, this is the same company that on April 1, 2014, Mother Jones stated that the employee 401K plan, for which Hobby Lobby matches employee contributions, has more than $73 million invested in mutual funds, some of which invest in manufacturers of contraception, including some forms which are specifically named in the complaint, even though there exist several boutique mutual funds that specifically screen companies that are not in line with their client's religious beliefs……again…..HYPOCRITES!!!!!! These are Christians for Gods sake, love one another right? Well…..only if you are like them because in September 2013, a shopper reported being told by a store employee, in Marlboro, New Jersey, Hobby Lobby did not carry merchandise celebrating Jewish holidays. While the store carried Christmas items, they did not carry items related to bar mitzvah, Hanukkah, or Passover. The store employee told the shopper these items were not sold due to the owner's Christian values. In response, Hobby Lobby apologized for the employee's comments, stating that it has carried Jewish holiday items in the past and would do so in test areas beginning in November 2013.
So now I have to wonder……might Chick-fil-A be open as well on July 4 2014, INDEPENDENCE DAY FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA??? I would think not…..these people have morals….standards….they are principled people. They make statements like;
"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that"
Dan Cathy had more to say:
“I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.' I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."
So again, these are Christians for God’s sake right??? love one another right??? Well…not if you happen to be Gay, or maybe want to exercise your own religious beliefs and values. And yes, they were open on July 4th, making another dollar to feed that high horse they ride on.
I know there are a lot of other businesses that are open on July 4th but when these two companies who seem to believe that they have the moral high ground and a true moral compass are open on a day that signifies and allows for them to express their religious rights personally and on their employees it just rubs me the wrong way.
