First lady Michelle Obama grabbed the political reins during a speech to the League of United Latin American Citizens in New York City, telling the crowd of admirers not to worry — that her husband wouldn’t wait on Congress to take action on immigration reform.
I found the first lady`s speech very interesting because I have been clamoring all along that President Obama has indeed the ability to take action on his own on this tragic humanitarian exodus flooding our shores from Central America and Mexico.
I have always respected those who dismiss my views and positions on immigration here in the community and Mr. Obama`s position to go it alone. This is precisely why I choose to write about this important issue to me. What Mrs. Obama says in her speech to the League of United Latin American Citizens in New York City is true. I applaud her for I lived to witness what she is talking about.
I applaud her because she clarifies the position I have held about the President`s ability to go it alone is true and what she says certainly sounds like what I have been saying all along repeatedly.
“We cannot afford to wait on Congress to lift up our next generation,” she said, Breitbart reported. “We can’t afford to wait on anybody when it comes to our kids’ future. Your grandparents and parents didn’t wait for opportunities to come to them. No, they packed up their families and moved to this country for a better life.”
Shortly after, Mrs. Obama began to list the civil rights offenses that plagued the Hispanic community at America’s hands in recent decades.
“Back then,” she said, referring to 1929 and the start of the LULAC, “Latinos were being brutalized and killed by police and lynched by the KKK. ‘No Mexicans Allowed’ signs hung outside of restaurants and storefronts. Latinos often couldn’t own property, or serve on a jury. And if you walked into a public building, you’d often see not two water fountains, but three — one white, one black a one brown"
I am quite certain that many who read what I write today were too young, if they were born yet to remember what the first lady is talking about, "back then", lynchings by the KKK and `No Mexicans Allowed` signs. It is good that those racism tones of yesteryear are just now being aired by the first lady of this great nation.
I applaud her but she probably forgot to mention one sign I personally witnessed and it had a profound effect on me my whole life as I grew up:
"No dogs or Mexicans Allowed" read the sign on the large window of this barber shop that I will never forget. It was hung on a barber shop in the eastern part of Texas in a city named Lubbock. Racism there against folks of color exists today even if the signs are gone. It is indeed painful to be reminded of those days by the first lady of the United States of America.
I wrote a diary the beast derails that touches on very few of the actual hardships and determinations that these Immigrants are challenging to reach their dreams in a free and prosperous nation. In that diary I wrote that folks here at Daily Kos have always shown "Zero" interest or tolerance in these type of diaries.
Today I must admit that my `zero view` in this community has changed dramatically. Every day I am seeing some diary or other addressing the same issue I write about today. I have noted that the attitude on immigration by some Kossacks has changed and I can clearly see why.
The video I bring to you here below will change the hearts and minds of the most hard core immigration opponent. And even if this video tells only the story that should change many minds about immigration among those who in the past opposed it, I regret that the children are not shown, but I have to think that it is for obvious reasons. It is so painful to watch, even without children.
What I and others who write on this issue were only a haze of smoke in the past, immigration in general has become a raging fire inferno not only here, but world wide. The problem is the children traveling alone to come to this country. Many, many of those children come looking for their parents who at one time came to this country and left the children across our southern borders alone.
Today I give you this video below to clarify what I have also said about the relentless flow of these immigrants as it is being recorded for a history that is being made for this country. I have said many times that they will not stop. That they will keep on coming.
At the very end of this interesting video, you will see and hear a man named Alejandro Sol-allende (or something), tell you what I have been saying.
In the meantime here in Walkerkoch state the fire that these children have caused has reached my backyard. Milwaukee could shelter and potentially become a destination for some of the thousands of children now flooding the U. S. border from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. I really have to think that if my state in getting involved with these children, for the first time I read that these immigrants are now referred to as Refugees, and not illegal law breakers.
Please watch and listen to Mr. Alejandro Solalende speak on the video at the end....
He speaks of the constant and unstoppable flow of immigrants trekking across the southern borders forever and that they will continue to come. They will never stop as they have done for hundreds of years. He tells you that these immigrants will make history in this country and remake america.
And I believe that. I have said that many times.
Enjoy the video, but pay attention.
