Hi guys,

Just giving everyone in the DKos community an update on our race out on Long Island. First, our website,, got up and running a couple of weeks ago and you can check it out for an in-depth look at her stance on the issues. We also have a page as well (

If you haven't already, please like her Facebook page:

Over the past month we have issued press releases blasting her opponent, Peter King, on his excessive New Hampshire visits in a long-shot bid for president, criticizing him on his votes against Lilly Ledbetter and for expediting the approval of natural gas exports, and disagreeing with the recent Supreme Court rulings on Harris and Hobby Lobby. She also issued a release showing her support for the Long Island Rail Road union workers in their contract negotiations with the MTA.

And tomorrow, we are having our kickoff campaign fundraiser out in Farmingdale. Hopefully some Long Island Kossacks can make the trip out: it's at Frankie's East Side Pizza at 313 Main Street from 6-8 PM. Anyone unable to come can contribute here:

Below is the press release we released today announcing the fundraiser.

On Wednesday July 16th , Patricia Maher will be hosting a meet and greet fundraiser at Frankie’s East Side Pizza, located at 313 Main St. Farmingdale NY, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Patricia Maher needs your generous support in her race in New York's 2nd District against Representative Peter King, and wants to be the Progressive choice that the people of the U.S Second Congressional district need and deserve.

Patricia comes from a non-for-profit background having been the Director of Development and Community Education whose mission was to educate the public about seizure disorders. Patricia Maher was also responsible for educational outreach for both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and the liaison for the organization for community, civic and business organizations.  She also worked with the Nassau County legislature to raise the legal age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 19 years old, and she helped pass Tobacco 19 into law in Nassau County.

If elected, Patricia will fight to expand Social Security to address the looming retirement crisis, work to end disastrous free trade agreements that have outsourced countless jobs overseas, support raising the minimum wage to help working families, and making federal grants and no- to low- interest loans available to help small businesses on Main Street succeed in this economy.

Patricia is also pressing for effective drug education efforts, an increase in the number of rehabilitation facilities on Long Island, and expeditious entry to these rehabilitation programs for our children. She is fighting to cut the red tape for those still not able to live in their homes due to Hurricane Sandy and to speed up the rebuilding process.

To help move Long Island into the 21st Century, Patricia is a proponent of bold infrastructure projects including repair of our local roads and green energy initiatives.

If you plan on attending the fundraiser please RSVP to

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
