As squeaker of the house, he never has a nice day. The teahadists loathe him, the Dems probably barley speak to him, and his caucus is divided several ways on every issue (except saying NO! to Obama). The era when Speakers were liked and or respected across the aisles, ended with that slimy poisonous Newt. Lately Speakers have been more like lightning rods than statesmen. Historically, Speakers have been controversial, but rarely, and some have been true statesmen, and men of integrity and political courage. Boner is cowardly, and after hanging on to his 'job' by caving to the knuckle dragging factions in his caucus, he has accomplished less than any speaker in history, (unless you count damaging the credit rating of the US).
That he represents a less ugly face for his party (less of the overt bigotry/lies/madness blathered by much of his caucus) , is a given. But beyond supplying a 'modesty panel' for the grotesque and ugly nature of much of his caucus, he doesn't have his own voice, he just parrots the last statement of the louder parts of his party. He defines 'failure', cowardice, and uselessness, his continued survival as Speaker is a sickening reminder of the disarray of a tea party infected House. The worst thing is, his probable replacement will be some tea addled whack job, Louie Ghomert, anyone?
