Was your weekend ambient noise including what sounded like a puddle jumper wound up for take off and a bulldozer with squeaky treads were in battle with Godzilla?
Friday evening the road adjacent to the GM Renaissance center was repaved. Godzilla is the asphalt stripping apparatus.
But the biggest and most annoying noise sounded like a plane a full throttle.
So what was it?
The HAMM HD120
FeaturesThis device not only compresses the asphalt through heat and weight. Vibration is used, this allows air pockets in the composite to be eliminated. This provides a more durable surface because in the north where temperatures do go below freezing water in those pockets will expand and that is how most cracks in asphalt start in frigid regions.
Ergonomic driver seat with 2 multifunction drive levers
Driver seat including steering wheel and instrument panel can be swivelled and rotated
Clear view of drum surface, its outer edge and working environment
Hydrostatic all-wheel drive for excellent hill climbing ability
Diesel engine with high power and low sound level (I would disagree)
Pressure sprinkler system with 2 water pumps; spray nozzles visible from driver seat
So this is good important work. Just noisy.
I did look up when the project was started as I was curious if our revelry was intentionally disturbed by meany Republicans in the state house. That is up in the air. The bids were submitted Nov. 2013 but I couldn't find the process timeline to see if the project started before Detroit was decided.
