Even if you have never had something stolen or your house broken into, many of can imagine the anger and fear you would feel, the sense of invasion. Our home is our castle, a safe haven from the crazy world outside. If the safety of our home is compromised, we should be able to defend ourselves. But there is a line between self-defense and vigilantism. Tom Greer crossed that line and has no regrets.
Mr. Greer’s home had been robbed twice before, but this time he was home and confronted the perpetrators. They attacked him knocking him down and then continued to ransack his home. Mr. Greer was able to grab his gun and the perps fled from the home. This is where the story of an elderly man defending himself turns to vigilantism.
Mr. Greer chases the couple into the alleyway and proceeds to shoot the female in the back. She pleads for him not to shoot, but he does anyway.
I shot her twice, she best be dead.
In the video he is almost smiling as he explains the lesson he shared with the male accomplice.
[…] but due to the fact his girlfriend or wife is dead, he may think twice before he comes back.
Reporter: You have no regrets about this do you?
None what so ever, I’ve never in my life shot anybody …killed anybody, I’m a good Christian […] when the time comes to defend yourself, you best do something.
Is this the world we desire? Buy a gun and you can be the judge, jury, and executioner? Who do we trust to make those decisions?
Long Beach police said they were investigating the incident. It was not immediately clear whether any charges would be filed against Greer for the shooting.
