Are we a stupid species? Much has been written about climate change denial, the inability to hear or process data, turning off when you hear numbers, and the psychological process of denial itself. I would mention the theological element today.
I mentioned in a facebook post last year that by poisoning the natural world we live in, and by causing the widespread unnatural elimination of species, (granting that extinction is a normal process of life with parameters that are normal within an expected range), we are rejecting God’s creation, and in effect crucifying Christ again, rejecting grace and our place in the natural order. A Methodist pastor of my acquaintance asked me if he could use that in a sermon, to which I assented, and said that he had been struck by the metaphor. I am an agnostic who still tends to see things in theological contexts. I ask you, could an ironic God actually be preparing the real end times in a biological
framework, or is this again a form of denialism? Is believing we are past the point of no return a form of denialism? I have never done a poll before, so here is my first.
