I mentioned in my last diary that an old friend of mine, who has been homeless for several years, finally has a chance to get an apartment for herself and her two children, one of whom is disabled and has been on a ventilator all her life.
Today is the final day to raise money, and she is almost there, thanks to the kindness of friends and strangers alike.
She's not a cute puppy who needs surgery. She's not a guy who wants to make epic potato salad for friends. There is nothing special or glamorous about being homeless with a disabled child.
She's just one of thousands of struggling single mothers who escaped an abusive relationship only to find herself on the streets, "in the system" - our broken safety net - despite working hard her entire life.
Please help her raise the last $400 she needs to get a home of her own for her children.
Edit: Here is a link to my previous diary on this topic.
Edit2: Thank you so much everyone - especially Eagle Keeper! My friend had faith that she could make it, but she had asked me to post this one last time.
I'll keep you all updated on her situation, as I'm sure she will too.
Update: She was smart and requested the money withdrawal on Wednesday. She was there first thing in the morning, deposit and first month of rent in hand. They will have a home again.
THANK YOU EVERYONE. I am so happy for her. She has worked hard as long as I've known her.
