How do you feel today, now that the winners and losers of yesterday's primary have been announced?
I must admit, I'm not too happy. Just about all of the candidates I favored lost: Hansen Clarke in MI-14; Rashida Tlaib in MI-Sen 4; my favorite for mayor. Proposal 1 won, which makes me uneasy despite its bipartisan support.
I guess there are some victories I can celebrate, including the second-place finish of my preferred candidate for circuit court. But not as many as I had hoped!
What did last night's returns signify for you? The floor is open!
By the way--we're still trying to come up with a date and place for our post-NN14 meet-up. See poll below. Please feel free to suggest locations in the comments. It would be big fun to have a Daily Kos delegation to the Labor Day parade, don't you think? I bet we could have a banner made....
After this week, of course attention must go to the fall GOTV campaigns: voter registration drives, absentee ballot chase, canvassing, calling, and all other GOTV efforts. Feel free to start weighing in about all of that, too.
To be honest, I wasn't thinking about the following as a standard element of our state/local Open Thread, but since DoReMI promoted it, I'm going to post it here, too:
"I'm wondering whether you all know this variation on the old folktale of stone soup: that when everyone comes together to contribute their own ingredient, in the end a delicious and nourishing repast is created for all. That's what I'm hoping to do, metaphorically speaking, through these Michigan/Motor City Kossacks Open Thread diaries... The good thing about an Open Thread is that anything is fair game for adding, as long as it's in the interest of promoting community across the state." - peregrine kate
Lastly--I have NO DESIRE to hog this open thread diary hosting. PLEASE nominate yourself for a Wednesday in the comments! As you can see, it's easy! ;)
