This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the country and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care. My parents used to raise birds so this diary is for them. I wrote this poem for the Climate Change blogathon and I think it applies here.
I am here
I am alive
I am all around you
I have no voice
I am in your trees
I am in your air
I am in your fields
I am in your oceans
I am in your world
I have no voice
I am a mother
I am a father
I am a protector
I am a soul
I have no voice
I can walk
I can crawl
I can sing
I can fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

Birds Available for Adoption
Prior to completing this application, please be advised that:
It is the goal of the Capital Region Parrot Society to provide loving and lasting homes for rescued, abandoned, and abused birds. We also work to provide homes for birds whose owners (for whatever reason) can no longer care for them.
When birds are placed with new owners via the CRPS, it is with the understanding that under no circumstances are the birds to be bred, sold or given away. Should extenuating circumstances occur whereby the new owner cannot keep the bird that bird becomes the property of the CRPS and must be returned to us for re-adoption.
Please consider joining our organization if you are interested in adoption. Dues are $20.00 per year. CRPS provides informative newsletters, free meetings and special events. Your fee is used for education and feeding birds we have in fosterage awaiting adoption.
Safety Tips
Safety Tip #1 - Make sure your bird's cage is not near an open window or a place where it could catch a draft and get too cold.
Safety Tip #2 - When giving your parrot a fruit containing seeds, make sure the seeds are removed because those seeds can be hazardous to the bird health.
Safety Tip #3 - Watch out for the beak! Make sure when handling a bird to be very cautious when the bird is close to your face. A bird may bite unexpectedly and cause serious injury.
Safety Tip #4 - Make sure when you have your bird out of the cage to be aware of any mirrors or windows nearby; birds can fly into them, mistaking the glass for an opening, and get hurt.
