I have been trying to write more, mostly poetry. Some of the poems below are ones you know from the climate blogathon, some are the result of a very unrequited love and one was written for my niece Emily for her wedding. Can y'all please tell me what you think? I was thinking about maybe trying to enter some contests but may be totally delusional. Please let me know any criticisms that may help me improve. I know we have a number of amazing writers here. Thank you.

I am here
I am alive
I am all around you
I have no voice
I am in your trees
I am in your air
I am in your fields
I am in your oceans
I am in your world
I have no voice
I am a mother
I am a father
I am a protector
I am a soul
I have no voice
I can walk
I can crawl
I can sing
I can fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

Emily’s Poem
By Pamela LaPier
On this day
When two wild spirits become
One united heart
When two separate planets
Collide and become
One brilliant star
When two distant wanderers
From different parts of the whole
At last find each other
And know with a certainty
Exactly where they are
That magic day has arrived
Thank you for allowing we
Your family to be a part

By Pamela LaPier
Long ago and far away
Barely still in memory
There was a little girl
I'll refer to her as me
An odd little person
Kind of chunky and never fit
She stuck pretty much to herself
Never found anyone to hang with
The people in her life
She tried desperately to keep
But sometimes the opposite happened
They ran off and she weeped
Sometimes they got drunk
No mom, I promise I'll do better
Sometimes they got divorced
Dad, don't leave I need us together
Sometimes they laughed behind her back
And all she heard was their snickers
As she got a bit older
She thought those crazy days were done
But she'd stopped letting people in
She'd discovered how not to love
Until a tall man walked in one day
And with one look in his eyes
All lessons learned were swept away
The little girl was back
I hope you'll forgive her one day

The Watcher
By Pamela LaPier
I am watching
As you cut down the trees my children play in
As you mow down the fields where they learn how to hunt
As you fill in the stream where my family drinks
As you blacken the air my children breath
As you tear down my house to build yours
I am watching with tears in my eyes

A Matter of Trust
By Pamela LaPier
I trusted you
To take care of my air
To take care of my forests
To take care of my oceans
To take care of my home
I trusted you
To love our home as I do
To honor our mother, our father, our earth
To have respect for the whole
To give something back
I trusted you
And you let me down

By Pamela LaPier
You know I wasn't before
I lived in my own crazy world
Never knew there should be more
I think I would have said I was
I didn't know any better
Guess you could say I was dumb
Took pride in being tough as leather
You shattered all illusions
Left me wondering what the hell hit me
Filled my heart with chaotic confusion
And feeling like a 13 year old ninny
I'm a heart that will always love you
There's nothing I wouldn't do for you
One look in your eyes I become unglued
It's a feeling I know life will never undo

By Pamela LaPier
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to
Why do I have to keep saying that to you
I feel so much I cannot show
So things come out wrong and skewed
I hope you will forgive me one more time again
I hope you understand how much I care
And that you'll never have a more loyal friend
I hope you know I'm harmless
Just a little too head over heels for you
I'd never do anything to hurt you
And I'd never want to intrude
I am curious about you
I will admit to that
But I understand that knowledge
Has to be offered and I respect that fact
So going forward I will always
Be ready and able to help you
Do not ever hesitate to ask
Because I would do anything for you
I really hope you know that

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
