An ad that began airing today highlights the story of one such case from the 1990s when Abbott was on the Texas Supreme Court. TRIGGER WARNING
During Abbott’s time on the Texas Supreme Court, he sided with Kirby Vacuums against a woman raped in her home by a Kirby salesman--a salesman who had a criminal sexual predatory history.
No background check of the salesman had been performed before he raped the woman as her children slept nearby. Abbott sided with Kirby saying the company had no obligation to require background checks on salesmen going door-to-door in Texas neighborhoods.(quotations from email I received this morning from the Wendy Davis campaign)
Fortunately, Abbott was outnumbered and lost because six Democrats and Republicans on the Texas Supreme Court ruled that this woman and her husband had the right to sue that company.
This is the kind of man that Wendy Davis is up against. As governor, Abbott would be worse than George W. Bush and Rick Perry, in my opinion. He's been on the frontlines of the war on women and continually sides against hardworking Texans in favor of insiders. And his own solutions to problems are ill-conceived. Case in point: Greg Abbott's 'drive around' asking where chemicals are stored plan works as well as you'd expect.
