It's been
months since reporters and fact-checkers have had the chance to sink their teeth into a good debunking of an Obamacare "horror story." Apparently the lull has encouraged Karl Rove's gang to see if they could slip on in under the radar. They
failed.
This ad features Coloradan Richelle McKim, who talks about the uncertainty for her family that Obamacare has created, and begs Sen. Mark Udall to repeal the law.
She describes her husband’s decision to start his own business
"We knew we needed to find healthcare," McKim said. "Because we were a single income family, we couldn't afford our plan."
On the screen, text appears that reads: "Richelle had to go back to work."
So here's what Fox 31 in Denver found out about McKim. She works for an "energy company that is among the biggest donors to Udall’s opponent." According to her LinkedIn profile, she's worked constantly since July 2008, months before President Obama was elected and years before Obamacare was passed and implemented. From 2008 to 2010, she worked with her husband in a family business, then since in 2010 she has worked in Colorado’s oil and gas industry. When asked to explain this contradiction, she, well, didn't. And created a new one.
Reached by phone Thursday afternoon at her office, McKim explained that she went back to work in 2010 because it was too tough making ends meet on her husband’s income.
"It wasn’t the Affordable Care Act," she said. "it was just a financial burden, having a single income for so long."
Then she says that when she was working with her husband, he was uninsured because he has high-blood pressure and it would have cost too much to cover him. And that was good because "we were able to choose if we wanted health insurance or not." But at the same time, he's now insured by her plan at work, so apparently they chose that maybe it was better for him to be insured (which he now can be, thanks to Obamacare). Also too, "illegals" have it better now, because "they can still choose if they want health care, but we as citizens no longer have that choice."
And that, my friend, is about as coherent an Obamacare "horror story" as you can expect to hear these days.
