I'm sure a lot of you are familiar of the events of Open Carry Texas members appearing in stores and restaurants. And while they were there, they carried AK-47s and M-16s, and for some reason they felt they were making a political statement and exercised the Second-Amendment rights in the process. Well, as you would expect, despite how shocking and threatening that kind of behavior can be; the open-carry members were treated with kid gloves and politely asked to leave, despite the fact that each of those open-carry members were carrying semi-automatics. Fortunately, policies followed afterwards that resulted in Home Depot, Target, Chilli's, Sonic, and Starbucks Coffee to ban such weapons in their stores.
But it looks like nobody heard of the Open-Carry story at Wal-Mart Stores, because as it turns out on August 5th, a young African-American male was gunned down by police inside an Ohio Wal-Mart store. His name was John Crawford, and according to his girlfriend, LeeCee Johnson, he was talking to her on his cell phone during the shooting.
She said that Crawford was at the video game section for a few minutes before heading towards the toy section of the store. Crawford was looking at the toy guns, some of which were air-guns, and before he knew it; was confronted by two police officers ordering him to get on the floor. Ms. Johnson overheard Crawford insisting that the toy gun wasn't real and was complying with the officers. Soon enough, Ms. Johnson heard gun shots, from the officers' REAL guns, and he was dead.
After the incident, Crawford’s family contacted the NAACP, and both officers were placed on administrative leave. Crawford’s family also demanded the security camera footage released but it has not happened yet.
These juxtapositions of how pro-gun crowds carrying real weapons are treated in public places in comparison to someone who wasn't even carrying a weapon is not only morally reprehensible, but repulsive as well.
It's just amazing that following Mayor Bill de Blasio's efforts to repeal the racist "Stop and Frisk" policies, we have pundits from Fox News making some insipid argument on how its immediately made New York not only less safe, but established the precedent of "Anti-Police hysteria"...
Well, I'm sorry guys, because it's not Mayor de Blasio's fault, racist cops are doing that all on their own...
