Why this laser-like focus on Israel/Palestine here and by the rest of the world.  Does anyone give a damn about the Chechens, who have and are suffering much more the the Palestinians. See this photo of Grozny's devastation. Does anyone give a damn about the Uighurs,  the Tibetans, or the Roma? How many diaries were about their plights lately? For the plight of the Chinese minorities see The Emperor Far Away: Travels at the Edge of China,’ by David Eimer reviews here.

Hardy a peep.  Why the focus?.  Are Russia and China too big and too powerful to challenge? Any ideas.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    •  Don't assume bad faith (0+ / 0-)

This writer probably just wonders and want us to consider the other groups having a rough time - it's true that they don't get as much attention. As for the why of this reasonable Socratic question: as others have noted here and elsewhere, much of the intensity of concern over Gaza comes from 1. That the USA aids and supports Israel even when it misbehaves (monetary and military aid, and political support like UN votes), 2. The Palestinians are in "occupied territory" rather than at least minorities within recognized national borders, and that changes the dynamic of acceptable behavior, so settlements there are not legally equivalent to Russians or Chinese settling in minority areas, even if the latter causes cultural stress and assimilation pressures etc. So when you see a question like this, just "take it straight up" as polite respondents should, and answer the question as is.

    questions for YOU.

Why the inability to comprehend that many Americans are angry at being COMPLICIT in the Gaza atrocity?

Why the inability to comprehend that the world is angry that two DEMOCRACIES are complicit in this atrocity?

Why the inability to comprehend that protest against two DEMOCRACiES involved in an atrocity may in fact turn the tide?

  •  we don't pay for Chechens' destruction (12+ / 0-)

we aren't told by our media that Chechens are responsible for their own destruction.

our political leaders aren't voting 80-0 in support of Chechen destruction.

the country destroying Chechnya does not mewl on about it's "right to exist" and how it is more moral than the Chechens - or at least if it does people here know it's BS.

There is no body of opinion here that it's good for Chechens to be destroyed & humiliated.

If there were no history of support for Israel here, if the bulk of commentators understood that Israel was a bad actor, the destruction of Palestine might not be such a hot issue.

But as it is it's an open question ... in fact, opposition to Israel's behavior is forbidden in our political class. The discoonect between our official story and reality is so  great. This leads to much ferment as activists and citizens try mightily to turn the situation & US perception around.

Re Chechnya there is no such need. There is no such vast official misperception.

    •  To critique the distribution is a game point (0+ / 0-)

as a matter of principle. What goes on in a venue is not sacrosanct, and the "why don't you ..." is too easy and hackneyed of an ad hom dodge of "the question" as a point in itself. If the OP made an error in judgment, it was being relatively clueless about why it really does make sense to focus more on the I/P issue. But let's not beat up on folks just for being a bit slow, save that for genuine ill intent and big-scale stupidity. (Yeah, BTW lots of people say "folks" and don't mean any belittling of anything, that reminds me of another dumb thing going around here awhile ago: the idiotic intuition that Obama must not be serious about torture, in part from his using the phrase "we tortured some folks.")

in Israel, and some people still focus on the situation there as if it is the only hotspot on the planet, this is a good question. But in a month in which Israeli forces have killed hundreds of children, it is not a good question. Of course people are going bananas about what is happening in Gaza right now.

      •  You apparently misunderstood the diary (0+ / 0-)

The diarist wasn't saying anything about people like me. He's talking about people who drum up a sh*tstorm about Israel yet don't say a word about, for example, Chechnya.

He's not talking about me since I don't drum up a sh*tstorm about Israel.

Why does this site have a laser focus on the Palestinians ? Because people who don't want to focus on Palestinians and do want to focus on Chechens ,Uighurs,  the Tibetans, or the Roma , fail to do so while complaining that others don't .
Why this laser-like focus on Israel/Palestine here and by the rest of the world.

              •  Who ever said I want to spread the focus? (0+ / 0-)

The question is why the focus on the Palestinians but nothing on Chechnya etc. For all I care, the site could focus on none of them. It's not my web site, so it doesn't matter to me. The question is still why the laser focus on the Palestinians while ignoring the others. I don't laser focus on the Palestinians at all, therefore I can't answer the question.

What's amusing is you guys simply can't answer it. Instead, you try the "well why don't you write a diary" shtick which is petty and doesn't make sense since I (nor the diarist) have a laser-focus on the Palestinians. We aren't the people to answer the question.

                  •  Again you missed the point (0+ / 0-)

Whether intentionally, I don't know. There's nothing inconsistent about the above. Personally, I don't care if the web site spreads its focus. I just can't figure out why people have a laser-focus on the Palestinians but not the Chechens. And since you can't answer the question, it's pretty clear you don't have an answer.

"It doesn't matter to me" because for all I care, we don't need diaries on the Palestinians anyways. So we can narrow the focus to nothing. That's fine with me. I just don't understand the laser focus. Neither does the diarist. Neither do you, apparently, since you can't answer the question.

Doesn't matter. Even people in this country don't matter. 20+ 4 -year-olds are massacred. Do they matter? Not so much. Young black men are being gunned down in the streets. Do they matter? Not so much.. If it happened some place else, we would be going to war. Billions are given in foreign aid, but food stamps, social security?  They need to be cut, better yet done away with.  The money we pay in taxes needs to be spent elsewhere. The media have their own priorities concerning what matters to them, and it sure isn't we, the people.
