There has been this Facebook/Instagram thing lately where folks share their favorite verse and then call out other to do the same. To this point, no one in my circle of friends has called me to do so... probably because they (correctly) assume that I dislike public pronunciations of faith that are of the "Look at how pious and awesome I am!" variety. One's faith is definitely bigger than a social media post, but personally I find that the posts about what you are doing with life on this earth say much more about you than what your favorite verse is.
Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing is welcome.
I do have verses that speak to me--that cause me to feel in ways that others do not. Below is one such verse:
Kindness and truth shall meet;
justice and peace shall kiss.
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
and justice shall look down from heaven.
Psalms 85:11-12
I love the poetry of the Psalms...and that they are sung or recited as prayers by members of all the Abrahamic faiths.
This particular verse was part of the Psalm for Mass today (Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time)... and is timely. I would like for justice and peace to kiss... the world could definitely use a break from war.
